Manchester United forward Anthony Martial took to Twitter to publicly dispute transfer rumor stories linking him with a move to Arsenal. This doesn’t happen all too often in the football world, a player specifically calling out transfer gossip as “fake news,” so when it actually actually does occur, you can tell a chord has truly been struck.
Anthony Martial wrote “The rumors are false,” in French, his native tongue, along with a red emoji to symbolize his loyalty to Manchester United Football Club.
Les rumeurs sont fausses ?
— Anthony Martial (@AnthonyMartial) June 28, 2017
As of now, the tweet has been re-tweeted more than 12,000 times, “liked” more than 22,000 times and inspired 1,400 comments and counting. Martial was arguably United’s best outfield player in 2015-16, and their best offensive weapon, but year two at Old Trafford didn’t go so well. In the change to Jose Mourinho, Anthony Martial saw his playing time and then naturally his scoring production decline.
He was linked in transfer rumors away from the club in the January window as well, but Mourinho has maintained that he has no interest in parting ways with Martial.
