Following his side’s 5-2 rout of the L.A. Galaxy in international friendly competition, Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera dismissed transfer rumors linking him to Barcelona.
“There is nothing certain about Barcelona because I am very happy at United and I feel valued and focused here,” Herrera told reporters in postgame (transcription via Marca).
Another United transfer narrative, surrounding the talks to acquire Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, has been discussed at length the past couple days. The night before the L.A. Galaxy exhibition, United Manager Jose Mourinho discussed how and why the Morata negotiations fell apart, before United then went and signed Everton’s Romelu Lukaka instead.
After the match, Mourinho praised Morata extensively, and while he didn’t seem optimistic about a deal getting done any time soon, the Portugese didn’t close the door either. Ander Herrera talked Morata too; expressing his dismay that he won’t have him as a new teammate this season.
“Of course I wanted to have Morata as a teammate, he was very close because the two clubs negotiated,” Herrera said. “Too bad he is not with us but I wish him well.”
Ander Herrera and the rest of his United teammates will next take on Real Salt Lake in another international friendly Monday night. It will be their final exhibition against a MLS side before they enter the preseason “tournament” known as the International Champions Cup.
