Manchester United have already taken care of their central defender needs this summer transfer window (via Victor Lindelof), and it appears they are possibly moving on to central midfielder or striker next. In the midfield, the solution could be Nemanja Matic, or possibly Fabinho (who made some remarks today that will certainly put United at high alert).
At the striker position United badly need a replacement for the rehabilitating and departing Zlatan Ibrahimovic. That could and should be Real Madrid man Alvaro Morata, who was moving very close to a transfer deal being sealed just a couple weeks ago.
Then the Cristiano Ronaldo drama occurred, and it overshadowed this situation, along with everything else in the football world.
After all, when it’s the world’s highest earning athlete and arguably best footballer who’s being discussed, it of course draws attention away from everything else. Getting a CR7 deal done would obviously be a much larger task than sealing the acquisition of Alvaro Morata, and it appears United have shifted their focus back to the center forward.
ESPN FC claim that “Manchester United are making progress in their pursuit of Alvaro Morata but have yet to agree a fee with Real Madrid. Manager Jose Mourinho has identified Morata as the striker he wants to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic.”
Morata has certainly dropped plenty of hints that he wants out of the Spanish capital, given the changes he made to his social media accounts. Morata even gave some fuel to the fire that he’s recruiting Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez to leave Real and join him at United.
That narrative might be a bit far-fetched, but their remains hopes, for both giant clubs, an Alvaro Morata deal could be finalized before MUFC depart to the United States of America for their preseason exhibition tour on July 9.
