Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba share many of the same interests; it’s why they are such close friends. They also share an agent, Mino Raiola, who has established himself as the current super-agent of all super-agents. After all, he literally owns Al Capone’s house. Lukaku and Pogba might also share something else soon- an individual who once had “most expensive player in the world” status.
Manchester United bought Lukaku from Everton for £75m last week, and they unveiled the Belgian striker in true Hollywood fashion yesterday.
With add-ons the sum could reach £90m and that would surpass the £89.3m that United paid Juventus to bring Paul Pogba back to the club last summer. Indeed #RedRom could end up being costlier than #Pogback. It makes sense, as the transfer fee record is something that’s likely to be broken every other summer, or maybe even summer moving forward, as new television contracts inject more revenue streams into clubs, who can then spend that cash on acquiring new players.
The Telegraph writes of the Lukaku deal structure: “the add ons will be paid in two tranches depending on the success of Lukaku, who has the option of a sixth year in his contract.”
Lukaku will wear #9 for United, with the public blessing of his predecessor, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
