According to multiple reports all across the internet, defender Phil Jones has given Manchester United a much needed fitness boost ahead of their huge rivalry clash at Anfield against Liverpool. Yesterday, we learned that attacking midfielder Marouane Fellaini will be out a couple weeks. Meanwhile his teammate for both club and country, Romelu Lukaku, rests on the international break and United wait with a fair degree of concern to see how his convalescence goes this week.
This of course with midfielder Paul Pogba already out for the long term. With Phil Jones though, there seems to be much less anxiety.
A report from the Bristol boys:
“Sources have told ESPN FC he returned to Carrington as a precaution with England only needing one point from their two games to be sure of a place at next summer’s tournament in Russia.”
Phil Jones did play all 90 minutes against Crystal Palace the last time that United were in action, but a knee injury forced him out of England’s World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Slovenia. It’s a great fitness boost for United, solidifying the fitness of the back line, while questions remain up front in attack, and a major injury crisis is going on in the midfield.
