Liverpool’s 2017 struggles continued last week, with a 2-0 loss to Hull. Saturday, they host Spurs in what is a crucial game for Liverpool’s top-4 hopes.
Despite a miscue that directly resulted in Hull’s first goal, Simon Mignolet will start in net for Liverpool. Neither Mignolet nor Loris Karius has had sustained success for the Reds between the pipes this year, but it should still be Mignolet’s job right now.
In the defense, Clyne, Matip and Milner are near certainties to start, barring any late injury concerns. Lovren was out against Hull and was sorely missed as Lucas Leiva had to fill in. Lovren hasn’t trained all week, but if he is fit, he should slide right back into the line-up.
Henderson and Lallana should both be near certain starts if they are healthy.
The question mark is who plays alongside them?
Jurgen Klopp seems to favor Emre Can, but he and Henderson are too similar of players and Can hasn’t been at is best in recent weeks. Wijnaldum should get the start, if for no other reason than to change things up in the midfield.
Liverpool has been struggling to score goals in recent weeks. With that in mind, Klopp could turn to Daniel Sturridge to try and spark the offense. Sturridge has seen only spot duty this year, but with Roberto Firmino struggling in recent weeks, it may be time to give him a game off and see what Sturridge can bring.
