Liverpool finally announced the signing of Mohamed Salah from AS Roma yesterday, and the transfer fee is believed to have set a a new club record. English media reported a value of £39 million, while the Italian club claims they netted 50 million Euro on the transaction. When the 25-year-old signed with Chelsea, the transfer was fee reported to be in the region of £11 million, so Salah’s market value appears to have quadrupled in three and a half years.
That valuation increase is perfectly natural for a guy who scored 19 goals in all competitions for Roma this past season, the best campaign of his career.
He accomplished those numbers despite missing nearly a month and a half while on international duty with Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations. This is a good pick-up for LFC, as Mohamed Salah appears to be a rising up-and-comer.
In an interview with the club’s official website, Salah was asked if he’s improved since his last spell at giant Premier League club. His response was resoundingly affirmative.
“100 percent, yes,” Salah said. “Everything (has improved). Even my personality was different, I was a kid — I was 20 or 21. Now I’m four years older. I have lots of experience in three clubs: I was at Chelsea, then Fiorentina and then Roma.
“I like to play here in the Premier League. I’m happy to be back and I’m excited.”
