We’ve got a major Arsenal FC transfer rumor story circulating in the Twitterverse, blogosphere, cyberspace and media world today; kind of. Well, it’s a past Arsenal FC transfer rumor story, about a guy that should have come, but didn’t.
Arsenal was all set to lure Luis Suarez away from Liverpool in 2013; according to what Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had to say today.
In an interview with beIN SPORTS, Arsene said a general agreement was reached to bring Suarez to the Gunners.
“It was very close, we had an agreement with the player,” Wenger said.
“We had been wrongly advised that he had a clause, you know, with a minimum [price]. But we had an agreement with the player. You can ask him.”
“I’m convinced that he wanted to join us. And then they kept him for one more year, they improved his contract and promised to sell him a year later to a club abroad.”
Obviously, Luis Suarez went on to sign with Barcelona instead, on a very lucrative deal. Liverpool received a huge financial package which then led to a series of forward signings, most of which the Reds whiffed on, and thus ultimately sealed the fate of Brendan Rodgers.
