It promises to continue being a very exciting summer transfer window at Liverpool FC, with plenty of comings and goings. Who will be the next to join Naby Keita and Fabinho as new arrivals this summer?
Who will be heading out the Anfield exit door? Let’s take a spin through the latest transfer rumors and gossip making the rounds on the internet today.
Switzerland star Xherdan Shaqiri, a target of several teams, including Manchester United and Liverpool, said he will announce his new team soon. With the Swiss now eliminated from the World Cup in the round of 16, he is free to focus on the next step in his career. He spent the last season with Stoke City, but with the Potters relegated he wants to move on to a team stay stays up in the top flight this season.
“At the moment, I can’t say anything. You are going to hear soon on my future,” Shaqiri said (This is Anfield).
“I was not thinking about this because I was just focused on my national team and wanted to make a good tournament for my team and my nation.”
“It’s pretty normal to be aware of clubs being interested. I don’t know, it’s not dependent on me sometimes. Of course, I would like to play on the biggest stage in football. Everybody knows that. I hope I can stay in the Premier League. I hope so, you never know with football. I don’t rule out anything.”
–Nabil Fekir was in the final stages of making a £53 million move to Liverpool earlier this summer, as he even completed a medical. However, the transfer didn’t go through, and he’s still at Lyon for the time being. He may stay there, or he still could move to Liverpool. Manchester United is another possible destination as he’s been linked to Old Trafford as well.
Confused? Yes, so are we. Here’s all the ambiguous things that his manager Bruno Genesio had to say about the current situation.
“He has expressed his desire to play at another level,” Genesio told reporters. “We will need to set a date.”
“If there is a possibility like with Liverpool, Nabil will certainly seize the opportunity, once both parties agree. I am working under the assumption that he will stay with us.
“He wants to take the next step. The president has offered him the chance to leave. We will see after the World Cup. If Nabil is here, it makes my job easier. I would be happy to keep him. I think he is looking at two possibilities: To stay to play the Champions League with us or to leave to join a bigger club.”
That is some excellent talking in circles there. Thanks for the update!
-Fabinho, the defensive midfielder who moved from Monaco for £43.7 million a few weeks ago, revealed that he was never even remotely close to joining Manchester United. Actually, there wasn’t even an offer extended.
“I was never close to signing for Manchester United, no,” he told FourFourTwo magazine.
“I heard things said about it, but the truth is it was never a strong possibility. I won’t deny there were a few conversations about my situation with Monaco, but there was never an official offer from United.”
Fabinho said he never really had any doubts about his decision to join the Reds.
“As soon as Liverpool declared their interest in signing me, it was a simple decision to make,” Fabinho added.
“A club with Liverpool’s history wants you? Come on, you just pack your bags and go. It will be an honor to wear the famous red shirt.”
