Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho appears resigned to the fact that he won’t be acquiring winger Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. Mourinho admitted that the Serie A side “put up a good defense” to retain their talented attacking player, and seems to have now moved on from the pursuit.
Mourinho told Premium Sport: “Football is a business and, if we were to play against Inter tomorrow I would want to beat them, which is normal.”
“Inter defended Perisic, and they put up a good defense. They’re strong, they put up a good defense to keep someone who’s an important player for them. That’s football.”
Mourinho was very keen on making Ivan Perisic his fourth and final signing of the summer, giving him the attacking mid/winger that he was looking for to fill out all of his designated position group needs.
Inter reportedly held steadfast on their £48.5 million valuation of Perisic, and United, unwilling to go that high in price, gave up on the possibility of striking a deal. Mourinho admitted interest in Gareth Bale, and although that might not be the most realistic scenario, but it does seem to be the only Man United transfer rumor getting real traction right now.
United have spent £146 million on three players already this summer- £75m for striker Romelu Lukaku, £31m on central defender Victor Lindelof and £40 million on holding midfielder Nemanja Matic.
