Juventus Manager Massimiliano Allegri would neither confirm nor deny the rumors claiming he could be the next boss at Arsenal. It remains to be seen who will replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, and even when that might happen. Wenger is currently in the final year of his contract, the 20th season that the Frenchman has been with the club.
There has been a consistently strong backlash against Wenger from supporters, and if he is indeed out, Massimiliano Allegri, speculation holds, could replace him. Rumors have been flying and today the Italian was asked directly about them.
“I won’t deny or confirm anything,” Allegri told Mediaset Premium. “I am in sync with the club, now we have to focus on winning.”
We went through this almost exactly a year ago at this time, only with Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea. We saw reports the week of February 10th, 2016 linking Allegri to the job at Stamford Bridge.
Allegri told Sky Italia in response to this reports a year ago: “There’s nothing to it. I cannot either confirm or deny something that doesn’t exist. I want this matter over and done with now. What’s important for me right now is to get to the end of the season with Juventus and try and win some silverware.”
The Chelsea job of course went to Antonio Conte, Allegri’s predecessor at Juve.
Massimiliano Allegri was also linked to the open Tottenham Hotspur job in the spring of 2014. There were even reports that Allegri would replace Tim Sherwood, which Spurs had to publicly deny.
Via The Telegraph, Giuseppe Marotta, the chief executive of Juventus, has also insisted that there is “no reason” for Allegri to leave the Serie A leaders as he has more to accomplish in Turin.
