Happy New Year and that means Happy January transfer window- let the rumors commence. Today’s best offering, arguably, comes from the Daily Mirror, who report that Andreas Christensen is being monitored by Barcelona. The Chelsea defender supplanted David Luiz in the Blues starting lineup when the Brazilian had a falling out with manager Antonio Conte.
Since Christensen took over for Luiz, after the former Paris Saint-Germain man’s “injury,” he’s never looked back, showing very fine form and making himself impossible not to select. He’s now a staple of the Chelsea back three, alongside Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta.
The Mirror points out that “Christensen still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are keen to sort out a new deal to fend off interest from other clubs.”
Barca, despite the supreme dominance they have shown both domestically and in Europe, have less depth than usual in the back line now due to the injury to Samuel Umtiti. At just 21 years of age, Christensen would be rated very highly in the transfer market, and is expected to command a pretty penny from any would team looking to sign the Dane.
