Back in May, we received word that Chelsea were looking to offload Cesc Fabregas. This notification came via email from a people claiming to be a member of the Chelsea board, but lacking any sort of verifiable status that he in fact held the position he claimed.
That highly questionable source told The Sports Bank of several teams interested in Fabregas and holding talks with Chelsea at the time. They claimed that West Ham United had the highest bid, and found themselves in pole position for the player.
That idea just didn’t smell right at all, so we of course didn’t publish it.
Fabregas, who has three years left on his deal, obviously stayed put, but he was linked in the press this summer to Real Madrid, Juventus and even a possible return to Barcelona.
When Cesc Fabregas didn’t feature in Chelsea’s opener versus West Ham, the rumor mill started to churn. (But of course, there was absolutely no talk of a West Ham move!) Well perhaps our source knows the same person who is also talking to the Daily Mirror now.
As the 24 September edition of the Mirror wrote:
West Ham will offer Cesc Fabregas an escape route from Chelsea if the Spaniard cannot break back into Antonio Conte’s first-team on a regular basis.
The Hammers are keeping the former Barca star’s situation under review as the ripples from the midfielder’s early-season absence – he was a sub for the first five Premier League games – swept around the top flight.
I guess we can now upgrade this transfer narrative from “get out of here” to a “watch this space” maybe. possibly. Cesc Fabregas did recently say that his being dropped from the first team was in fact inspiring him to play harder and get better.
Maybe it’s also motivating him to find a new place where he can move on and get first team football without worry.
And now here we are, in November 8th and the Mirror has brought up the Fabregas to West Ham narrative again, this time saying ti could be a loan move, not a permanent sale.
The report says that West Ham “are ready to make an audacious move to land Fabregas,” with Chelsea prepared to subsidize his £160,000-a-week wages.
