The blockbuster Chelsea FC summer transfer window that we all speculated about in May and June is now taking shape in late July. Many Chelsea supporters were anxious as the club’s delay in transfer activity was trying their patience, but things are really cooking now. Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata is on his way to Chelsea, claim multiple reports.
The fee is reported to be in the neighborhood of £70 million, or just £5m shy of what Manchester United paid for Chelsea’s number one summer striker target Romelu Lukaku.
A general agreement between Chelsea and Real has been reached, claims the BBC, who write that “The Spain international must now agree personal terms and pass a medical to complete the transfer.”
Thus Morata will be the answer at striker for Chelsea, who will not welcome Diego Costa back this season (the feeling certainly appears to be mutual as he posted photos of himself partying in an Atletico Madrid shirt online this week) and also missed out on their number replacement target Lukaku.
This news comes a day after the club announced a new and better deal for manager Antonio Conte and just a few days after the unveiling of Tiemoue Bakayoko. That makes four new players, and five new deals done at Stamford Bridge this summer, including Willy Caballero and Antonio Rudiger.
Morata will soon leave Real Madrid training in Los Angeles, and join his new club for their preseason tour of Asia. The Morata deal also probably helps expedite the jettisoning of Diego Costa.
