Just two days until the summer window closes, so there’s a ton of Chelsea FC transfer narratives to discuss on this Tuesday. So we won’t waste any more time on the introduction and we’ll just dive right in.
-Chelsea are after another one of Leicester City’s star players who helped propel them to their 5,000-1 odds league title of 2015-16. Having bought N’Golo Kante last summer, the Blues are returning for another Foxes midfielder, Danny Drinkwater.
–The Daily Express writes that Chelsea “are moving closer to a £40m deal for Drinkwater and are also pursuing deals for Everton forward Ross Barkley, and Swansea striker Fernando Llorente.”
-The Blues of course already bought a midfielder in Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer, what’s his reaction to the Drinkwater news? Does he feel threatened by the added competition? No.
“Danny Drinkwater doesn’t scare me,” Bakayoko told SFR Sport. “It’s the competition. It’s good, I think every team needs that. It makes you improve.”
-Regarding Llorente, Antonio Conte is reportedly confident that he’ll acquire the Swans forward for half the price that he originally expected. Metro writes that: “confident of completing a bargain move for Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente before the summer transfer window closes.”
–ESPN FC is keeping a live blog running as the deadline approaches. ESPN points out that Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also remains on Liverpool’s list despite multiple reports yesterday that Chelsea have agreed to a fee for him.
NBC Sports have the Ox on their five players to watch as the transfer window deadline approaches, writing that “The versatile England international just turned 24 and has shone in a wing-back role for Arsenal over the past 6-8 months. Oxlade-Chamberlain can get UEFA Champions League action at both Liverpool and Chelsea, while Manchester City are said to be long-time admirers too.”
