As we wrote yesterday, regarding the comments Chelsea star Eden Hazard made expressing his love for Real Madrid and his desire to play there someday: “It’s possible that the only reason Hazard said what he said at the St. Mary’s over the weekend is to posture for his agent, in the aim of getting a better, richer deal with Chelsea.”
Today, it seems like that is very much the case.
The remarks that Hazard made at Southampton over the weekend were less about trying to force through a move to Los Blancos. It was more about trying to get contract extension talks restarted again, after they had been stalled out. This is about trying to gain additional leverage towards obtaining a better, much more lucrative extension on his current deal with his current club.
And reportedly, it worked.
Sky Sports reports today that: “Chelsea intend to convince Eden Hazard to stay at the club and tie him down to a new contract.”
In other words, here’s a great example of some solid agent work.
