Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is out of contract at the end of the season, as you might have heard quite a few times already. Come January, the German is free to negotiate a transfer to a foreign club this upcoming summer. Just like their star striker Alexis Sanchez, if Arsenal cannot strike a deal to sell him in the winter transfer window, then they risk losing him on a free.
Ozil has been linked to numerous clubs, both home and abroad, with Manchester United and Barcelona being the two most persistent and consistent narratives.
Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger has shot down the claims that Ozil has already agreed to a Barcelona switch.
“No,” the Frenchman responded when a question on this topic was posed to him.
“What kind of control can I have over that? All these people have agents who can talk to anybody. That doesn’t disturb people, that happens all through their career.”
So whether this is a real story, or just agent driven fake news, only time will tell. When Ozil moved from Real Madrid to Arsenal in 2013, he set the club transfer fee record. That record has since been broken by Alexandre Lacazette this past summer.
