When Arsenal (winless in their last four Premier League matches) hosts Southampton FC (winless in their last seven Premier League matches) tomorrow, something might give. The match could end in a draw, so we cannot say that “something’s gotta give.”
It’s a match-up between two sides that have very different goals for this season, but find themselves falling well short of them. Arsenal are eight points outside the top four, so they could easily be relegated to the Europa League yet again next season if they can’t get it in an extra gear soon.
As for Saints, well they cannot let the 9-0 humiliation at the hands of Leicester City define their season, and it might well should they get relegated. This is the third straight season which has seen them fighting for survival, and they won’t be staying up next year if they can’t step their game up.
So the stakes in this one are actually higher than it might first appear.
