The offseason is here for Arsenal FC, and that means this Gunners squad won’t be reunited again until training camp commences in July. However, it’s been a very busy summer already, and we’re only just getting warmed up.
It’s certainly going to be an exciting transfer window at the Emirates, with a whole lot of topics to discuss. Let’s take a spin through Tuesday’s headlines.
-Yesterday we learned that Arsenal was closing in on Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno, with an announcement confirming the acquisition expected to come Tuesday. Well, it still hasn’t happened by the time we published this post, but the announcement is imminent, at least in the minds of many Gunners supporters.
A hint dropped by an Arsenal photographer has the fans convinced that official confirmation will arrive sooner rather than later. The Daily Mirror has more.
Goal reports that Leno will move to the Emirates for a fee in the region of €22m (£19.2m/$25m). In the same report, the website gives an update on the pursuit of Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira.
The 22-year-old Uruguay international is a box-to-box guy who can also drop back in the middle of the park. He would certainly help towards achieving the club’s number one goal of this summer transfer window, strengthening central midfield.
Goal reports that Arsenal will confirm his addition once the World Cup has ended.
Once these two moves are finalized, you’re going to see plenty of more action this transfer window, as then other dominoes will likely fall into place- the most obvious will of course be the departures of Petr Cech and David Ospina.
