Ander Herrera got hurt in Manchester United’s 3-2 win on penalties versus Real Madrid in a preseason friendly today. There isn’t much known right now about the severity of the injury, or how much time the Spaniard will miss. United Manager Jose Mourinho did give a description during the post game news conference at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
“It was very painful because for him to come off, it has to be painful,” Mourinho said of the Herrera injury.
“I say to the players, no risk in friendly matches, if you feel something, that something is coming, a muscular injury, get out, the result is not important.”
“But he was very painful, maybe muscle, maybe rib, I don’t know.”
Obviously, losing Ander Herrera would be a major blow for United, as he was one of the team’s best overall players last season. It would hurt on an added level knowing that he went down in meaningless match. The Red Devils face Real Madrid again in 15 days when they battle in the Super Cup. Their next preseason friendly comes Wednesday when they take on Barcelona in Washington, D.C.
