Over the years, the Detroit Lions have certainly given the internet plenty of comedic material. Indeed all the losing has made them the LOLions. Today broke new ground however, even for them, as the Lions promoted QB Coach Jim Bob Cooter to offensive coordinator.
The fun starts with his name, and continues with an exploration of his personal legal history. Factor in the setting for where he got into trouble- Knoxville, Tennessee, and you have quite the story.
According to WVLT in Knoxville, Tenn., Cooter was charged with aggravated burglary after allegedly getting into bed with a woman after climbing into the window of her apartment and stripping down to his underwear. The woman called the police, who arrested Cooter, and he was released on a $10,000 bond the next day.
No criminal offenses have been reported since then.
The real life Jim Bob Cooter story is one that a literary agent would immediately dismiss because it’s too unrealistic and contains way too many southern cliches. But on the plus side, at least Cooter did not knock over The Sunsphere/Wigsphere while he was in Knoxville. Also, the guy Cooter replaced was actually named Lombardi, just to give this story even more rich imagery.
Twitter had some fun today when the Jim Bob Cooter hiring was announced. Here’s just a sampling:

So enjoy the Jim Bob Cooter hire, Detroit Lions fans. Celebrate in a rocking chair on your porch by drinking a Lynchburg Lemonade out of a mason jar while chowing down on a plate of Hattie B’s hot fried chicken.
