University President Doug Baker introduced the NIU Huskies’ new Director of Athletics Sean Frazier today in Chicago. The press conference took place on the 80th floor of the AON Center in the MAC Club. Sean Frazier left the Wisconsin Badgers Athletics department to lead the NIU Huskies in DeKalb.
Sean Frazier already has a lot the experience necessary, as he assumed the role of Athletic Director at Wisconsin when Barry Alvarez took time to coach the Badgers in the Rose Bowl against Stanford. Alvarez is Frazier’s mentor
Will Frazier be able to build off the NIU Huskies BCS appearance in the Orange Bowl of the NIU Huskies? Or will the NIU Huskies go back to afterthought in the Chicago college football scene? It’ll be interesting as it’s a program in transition. Rod Carey takes over for Dave Doeren; who left for NC State. And obviously, there’s a new A.D. too for NIU Huskies football.
Here’s Frazier’s opening statement from the presser today. A new era begins in NIU Huskies college football:
Frazier replaces Jeff Compher, who left to take the AD position at East Carolina.
Frazier, who had been at Wisconsin since 2007, was also a finalist to become Rutgers athletic director before the school hired Julie Hermann. I’ll be back later with exclusives with Sean Frazier, new coach Rod Carey and etc. from the NIU Huskies. And I’ll be doing a lot more Northern Illinois coverage this college football season.
