Who’s going to replace Fred Hoiberg at Iowa State? The Mayor leaves behind really big shoes to fill. Here with me to inform you on who will step up and fill those shoes is KCCI-TV (CBS Des Moines) Sports Director Andy Garman.

I’m just wondering how the person with “HO1BALL” ISU vanity license plates is feeling right about now.

The front-runner, the most likely option is lead Assistant Coach T.J. Otzelberger
He’s young, just 35, and doesn’t have a lot of experience head coaching. However, he’s got deep, heavy ties to the program and has a reputation as a great recruiter. Yes, this is the path of least resistance, but it also makes good sense.
The sentimental pick, dream hire is Jeff Hornacek
This would be the best case scenario, but it’s very doubtful that A.D. Jamie Pollard is going to be able to land him. If Fred Hoiberg was “The Mayor,” this guy would be Lord of the Ames Fiefdom.
-The dark horse pick is Nick Nurse. Other names being tossed out there are Tim Floyd, Steve Prohm and Lindsey Hunter.
-The flavor of the month pick is Bryce Drew. He’s going to be linked with every high-major program with an opening going forward these next couple of years.
More on all these guys in detail in the podcast below. The Iowa State Coaching search talk begins at 16:30/ Have a listen below:
We’ll see if Pollard can make another splash hire, a basketball Gene Chizik type coach for Iowa State.
