Update: RGIII and his new wife, former FSU track star Grete Sadeiko, welcome new baby girl.
On July 14th, Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Robert Griffin III, colloquially known as RG3, appeared at a fundraising event in Chicago. RG3 attended a celebrity bowling event benefiting Charles “Peanut” Tillman’s Cornerstone Foundation. However, Griffin did not do any media opportunities that evening.
That night, sources told The Sports Bank that RG3 was in the process of getting divorced from his wife Rebecca Liddicoat. Sources told TSB that evening how Griffin was separated from his wife and in the midst of the divorce process.
Presumably, this situation figured into why RG3 refused to do any media interviews that evening.
Due to our editorial policy, and potential legal ramifications there of, The Sports Bank was unable to bring this narrative to publication at the time.
Now the situation has changed considerably, with news of the divorce from Rebecca Liddicoat breaking several hours ago. Multiple outlets are going with it now.
Liddicoat and Griffin were college sweethearts at Baylor, who got married on July 6, 2013. They had a daughter, Reese Ann Griffin, in May of 2015.
The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner and 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year is obviously taking this very hard, as all divorces are extremely tough on all of those involved. Reportedly he has the support of his teammates however.
