The polarizing Chicago Bears quarterback just made himself more polarizing. Jay Cutler has chosen a side politically; ignoring the longstanding unwritten rule for athletes “just shut up and play.”

Today he appeared on his weekly segment, the “Jay Cutler Show” on WMVP-AM ESPN 1000, and he was asked by co-host Tom Waddle about his voting preference: Mitt Romney or Barack Obama.

“That’s a touchy subject,” Cutler said initially. “Yeah, I have been following the debates and everything. I do live in Tennessee. I’m voting for Mitt (Romney) this election season.” Well, I guess his vote won’t really matter in Tennessee; that state is redder than a tomato. Or even if he voted here- Illinois is bluer than a smurf. Although I do applaud Cutler for going against the athletes are supposed to be apolitical all the time grain, he just put another reason out there to make himself more unlikable in Obama’s hometown of Chicago.

He had enough reasons already.

Barack Obama endorsed the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football tonight. In a halftime interview with Chris Berman, Obama said the Bears have the best defense in the league, and that Peanut Tillman should get Defensive Player of the Year in the NFL.

By the way, here’s Romney’s funny NASCAR and Ford Field gaffes

And the political overtones Romney found in the Michigan Wolverines and Wisconsin Badgers fight songs

  1. he shoulda just kept his fucking mouth shut

  2. Dustin Jaquette says:

Not a Cutler fan, but I love this. The qb of BO’s beloved bears goes with his opponent. If Hollywood celebs can do it, why not athletes?

  3. paulmbanks says:

If this changes anyone’s vote- that would be sad

  4. Ross John says:

This is proof that the rich benefit from Romney’s tax cuts. Cutler is a good quarterback and the question is what kind of person is he.

He is the type who would like Romney!
If I stood to gain an extra 20% on 10 mil, I would want him to wion also if I put my Money first.

  5. You are all so brainwashed (including the 22 year old that wrote the article) , it’s scary. These last four years have been great, though, right?!

  6. Why is it when somebody celebrities (Stay Dash, Cutler, etc) endorse Romney, all kinds of hate and venem gets spewed at them? When others publically endorse Obama . . . nobody objects.

  7. Thompson Way says:

Thank you Jay. I am a die hard Bears fan, who thinks your going to be replaced within the next two years, but this is great. Obama is a cross between the Professor and Gilligan. Seams to know what he is talking about, but his plan never works. Obama is an extremist, and Romney is a moderate. Always vote moderate if you want government to work. Extremists (left or right) are just dividing america. Bear Down and vote… however.

  8. Bill Markeff says:

Well, this is America, he can vote for whom he wants. Hollywood votes one way and it appears professional athletes think for themselves.

  9. paulmbanks says:

man there are some typoes and grammatical errors in this comment thread. How much better it would be without them

  10. jay doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground.
If Romney wins we are going to go back when bush was
    prez.

  11. Manny Toro says:

Cutler has chosen a loser they deserve each other…hope the rest of the league defensive lines remember who chose for President….Besides he has the reputation faking injuries when it gets hot in the Kitchen??? Chicken Shit!!!

  12. The man has his opinion and that’s all it is. Nobody should hate or love him more than before. Last time I checked this is America, where everyone is free to have an opinion without fearing any consequences on way or another.

  13. Of course he supports Romney,99% of athletes vote Repub. The Cowherd show has talked about how even most minority players who came from poverty are now staunch Repubs. Why? They want to keep as much of their money as possible. But when they in the hood, they want the people that make bank to be taxed to input it into the welfare system. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, they voting to keep their hard earned money, just like me.

  14. Nightfaucon says:

Do you actually leave your parents’ basement for even a millisecond? If you did, you’d realize that dozens of other athletes have openly endorsed (and sometimes with a fundraising hoops game) your god, lord, and master Barack Obama in recent years. Who, you ask? You’ll recognize them well: Magic Johnson, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kobe Bryant, Patrick Ewing, Victor Cruz, Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and yes, His Airness Michael Jordan, too–to name a few. And toss out that flat, four-year-old grape Kool-Aid while you’re at it.

  15. Reginald Greene says:

F#$k Obama, mohammed, allah, muslims and all liberals! Oh, I forgot, there one in the same.
