Jay Cutler and his famous for being famous wife welcomed their third and soon-to-not-be-vaccinated child into this world yesterday. That poor kid; I’m so thankful this thanksgiving that I had parents who believe and accept basic physical science. Anyway, while Saylor James Cutler’s arrival was burning up the online media heat maps yesterday, there’s actually another, more football related Jay Cutler story in the works.
The media are talking about Cutty as a favorite to win NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
Hall of Famer, Chargers Legend and NFL Today Analyst Dan Fouts on Jay Cutler
Jay Cutler may be the Comeback Player of the Year so far because of the way he’s performed, especially in cutting down on his turnovers – the interceptions, sacks and fumbles – that have plagued him over the years. He has turned things around and Adam Gase, his offensive coordinator, has been getting a lot of credit for that.
CBS Pregame Show On Jay Cutler
London Fletcher:
This is a great credit to Adam Gase, the offensive coordinator, and John Fox, the head coach for the Chicago Bears. They have lit a fire in Jay Cutler. I didn’t think he had a fire. I thought he was gasless. I thought he had no flame. No ability to light up. But Jay Cutler has played extremely good football for them. He hasn’t made those critical mistakes that he used to make in the past. He’s not turning the ball over. And he’s been a leader
AMY TRASK:
I want to see my quarterback win. And I’m always perplexed by people who say, ‘I want to see emotion from my quarterback.’ Well, I want to see passing. And good decision making. And touchdowns. And reading the defense. I want a quarterback who wins. I don’t care what he looks like on the sideline.
Out of those three opinions on Cutty Does It, I’m going to agree with Fletcher the most. That makes sense as he’s really my favorite NFL pundit anyway. The Princess of Darkness, as Raiders fan named Trask is right in that body language doesn’t matter all that much. It is overrated.
But leadership is still a very big deal. You can lead quietly and soft-spoken, like Marcus Mariota does. Last week was tough for Cutler, as he was facing the league’s number one defense and doing so without his main two weapons Eddie Royal and Alshon Jeffrey. Still he had a decent game, at least by previous Jay Cutler standards and 2015 had guaranteed us that Jay Cutler will be your Bears QB1 in 2016, and possibly beyond.
