As we enter the 2014 NFL season, the main Jay Cutler story line is “will he earn his money?” and “what does he have to do to earn that $22.4 million this season?” He’ll be the highest paid player in the NFL season. Greg Gumbel is a national media figure, a play-by-play announcer for the NFL on CBS. He’s also a Chicago guy, having worked for WMAQ NBC5 Chicago before he went to ESPN.
I had a chat with Gumbel on Monday and one of the topics was major headline news. Take a look.
My exclusive with Greg Gumbel led to his revelation that he hasn’t used the Redskins name on air in three years. (here’s the interview) The soundbite was the lead in the Keith Olbermann’s main story on his ESPN2 show on Friday night.

Now regarding the Chicago Bears and Jay Cutler.
“I don’t know that they’re so different from anyone else in they better damn well keep the quarterback healthy, and you can say that about 29 other teams,” Gumbel said.
“The fact is that he is one of the superior quarterbacks in the league and his arm can make a difference.”
Gumbel said that he is really looking forward to getting the opinions of Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall on their new program on Showtime this fall. Yes, Marshall will be contributing every week during this season as an analyst. This is pretty ground-breaking among NFL television.
