Update- it’s official, the Miami Dolphins have hired Adam Gase as their new Head Coach.
Jay Cutler has an infamous and well deserved reputation as a coach killer. Whether it’s head coaches or offensive coordinators, “Cutty Does it,” and by “it” we mean “gets them fired.” Adam Gase is the man who finally reversed this trend; accomplishing something no one else really seemed to be able to do- get the most out of Jay Cutler.
In 2015, the Chicago Bears were “all about that Gase, ’bout that Gase, no Trestman,” (credit @frustrated_fan) it resulted in Cutler having the finest passing efficiency rating of his NFL career.
As a reward for his efforts, Adam Gase is set to be rewarded with his pick of open NFL Head Coaching jobs.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport today had this today:
On why the Miami Dolphins decided to hire Adam Gase as head coach today:
“The Eagles wanted to bring Gase in for a second interview and it became clear that if the Dolphins were going to hire him, they needed to do it now before he hung around, before other teams like the Eagles talked to him. But actually the Dolphins tried to make this happen two days ago. They wanted to hire him when he was in their building, wanted to make sure that he did not leave without a deal. Instead he left, he went to New York, he talked to the Giants, he did his due diligence, talked about it with his family and as soon as he boarded the plane to Miami today, he knew that he would be the Dolphins head coach.”
On Adam Gase and the Miami Dolphins:
“This is a done deal. I’m told it’s for five years so a significant investment in Adam Gase. What the Dolphins wanted was an intense, football-centric coach who could help their quarterback and turn Ryan Tannehill into the franchise face that they thought he was. For Adam Gase, what he wanted was a chance to win early. This was a marriage that is not just several days but several weeks in the making. Mike Tannenbaum, the football czar in Miami, made clear that Adam Gase knew early on how much he wanted him; in fact, the Dolphins wanted to sign Gase two days ago when he was in their building but he wanted to complete the process, go talk to the Giants and make sure to think about everything before doing exactly what he did today which was inking a deal with the Miami Dolphins.”
“This is a home run hire for the Miami Dolphins, the biggest fish on the coaching market. Clearly the hottest candidate, someone who has helped quarterbacks throughout his career, whether it’s Tim Tebow getting him to the playoffs, whether it’s Peyton Manning setting the NFL scoring record, or revitalizing Jay Cutler as a franchise quarterback in Chicago. This has been Adam Gase’s specialty and he has already begun to build a rapport with Ryan Tannehill who the Dolphins want to be their franchise quarterback. Now they have a coach in Adam Gase to make sure that it happens.”
