The Soxman and Paul M. Banks discuss color schemes and clothing before conversing on all things White Sox.
When the 2005 World Series started versus the Houston Astros, I thought to myself “wow here are two franchises that drastically change their logo and uniforms every three years.” And yes, I know we’ve kept the same Ice Cube/Dr. Dre friendly silver and black since 1991, but you get my point. Whats your favorite color scheme era? I wear green White Sox gear, people think its the “Southside Irish” jersey/hat, but it’s not. I wear it to show my concern and stewardship for the environment. I also love the Black Sox/Shoeless Joe Jackson gear? but every time I see one of those jerseys they are like $500, know a place where I could get one for a reasonable price?

Â
(SM) Wow, we are talking baseball fashion this week eh? Perhaps we should call this week’s edition the “Metro†Sox exchange. Well, I owe everything to the Sox current color scheme as it is the basis for the Soxman uniform. With the summer months upon us, I honestly wouldn’t mind them revisiting the white jerseys of the early 1900s. It would be a lot cooler anyway.

Â
I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for the 1983 Winning Ugly colors. That’s why my retro costumes pays homage to it. As for the Shoeless Joe Jackson gear, you have a couple of options. Seymour Pennants might have the real thing locked away in a memory chest, and if that fails… there’s always Santa Claus. Have you been naughty or nice Mr. Banks?  Â
Â
That depends on who you ask. I know that your alter ego Bruce-Wayne Parker is a stylish guy, so please ask him what he thinks the coolest example of Sox gear being worn by a celebrity is? Mine is JoJo from Jodeci rockin’ the Sox hat and a dinner jacket/sunglasses indoors at night in their video for their remake of Stevie Wonder’s song (clip- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2ddj5uKbpY) Â
  Soxman removes his mask…
(BWP) I know less is more, but I have two personal favorites. Christina Aguilera wearing a 1983 White Sox cap and defining a “Soxyback†in her “Dirty†video rocked my socks. While it is likely an internet photo shop job, I also love the black suited Spiderman with the Sox logo on his chest.

Ok enough bread and circuses, time to talk baseball: what’s the deal with Ozzie’s latest outburst? Is Kenny put up with that crap? Is our offense going to be this maddeningly inconsistent all season long? Of course Scott Kazmir is one of the most underrated hard throwing hurlers in the game and Tampa has a very solid rotation (yes, Tampa is GOOD, that is not a misprint)
Â
(SM) I’m in the minority of people who was actually happy to FINALLY see the 2005 Ozzie return. Instead of coddling his players, he lashed out and said if you don’t come through you are going to find yourself on the bench. The Sox have the 5th worst team batting average in MLB at .245. They are 19th in RBI, and 21st in runs scored. We must have an upswing from at least two regulars or we will be inconsistent all season long.
Â
The Rays are good and they are going to get better. They have the top rated farm system in the major leagues and a young core complimented by a handful of veterans that know how to produce. They are tied with the Cubs for the 6th best team ERA in MLB at 3.65, and the 5th best team WHIP at 1.27. The Sox are actually better in all pitching categories but have a lesser offense to back it up.
Â
Speaking of pitching, what’s up with Buerhle? The pitching staff is, far and away, the main reason the Sox are in first place. Last week we gave love to the bullpen. Opine on the starting five please….
Â
(SM)You have to love the Sox starting five. I do not believe for a second that Buehrle is one of those players who got the big contract and no longer cares. He’s a finesse pitcher who just needs to go out and throw. He showed signs of life in his last 4 starts posting a 4.01 ERA.
Â
John Danks: The 4th best ERA among starters in the AL. A+
Â
Jose Contreras: 3-0, with a 1.61 ERA, 0.79 WHIP in May. 7th best ERA in the AL (2.89) A+
Â
Javier Vasquez: 3.43 ERA, leads the AL in Ks. A
Â
Gavin Floyd: 3.22 ERA, almost two no hitters, and second stingiest pitcher in the AL holding hitters to a .193 BA. A+
Â
When I was in Denmark, my White Sox VISA card was a huge hit. The guy at the Copenhagen airport was very impressed by it. It was popular in Berlin too. However, last week I went to buy some Cubs hats for my NBC photo shoot at the sportswear store across the street from Wrigley Field and when I paid for them with this same exact credit card, the guy ringing them up flicked me off. Seymour Pennants has been taking some cheap shots at you too lately. Why are Cub fans so surly with us lately? They have the best record in baseball. They’re in first place, just like us…why are they giving us this attitude?
Â
(SM) Because they can. They are the best team in baseball right now and are fighting to reclaim dominance of the city. They have the 6th best team ERA in MLB, and lead MLB in team batting average (.288), runs scored (331), HR (88), and RBI (312). Only two regular position players on the Sox (Quentin and AJ) have a better BA then the Cubs team average, which includes pitchers!
Â
Still, regardless of all the Cubby Blue you see around the city or how many heart attacks Seymour Pennants has while “goating†over his team, we own the city until the day that a World Series trophy is paraded on the North Side. Speaking of Seymour, I’m like Obama, I run a clean campaign and won’t sink to his level of trash talking my opponent. I also refuse to comment on the allegation he looks a lot like Goat Boy from those SNL skits and how as a Cubs fan, it works for him on so many levels.Â

Obama wins the nomination officially on the same night the Sox get their winning streak going again.
I have a feeling this will be David K’s favorite Sox exchange ever
A couple of comments on the Sox win last night. I know my Red Eye article was short, but how many of my points did the sox follow? They played with passion, had fun, and acted like no one could beat them. Perhaps they read my article. The bad part is that Konerko and Thome continued to look horrible. A win is a win and Alexei could be our new second base answer.
Swisher still sucks though
I miss Death Row!!!!
It went all down hill when they signed Hammer in 1996!!!
GO SOX!!!! 1ST PLACE!!!
Soxman, wouldn’t it be cool if the White Sox changed their colors again? You’re Soxman uniform would match the brown of your used sox and look so cool if it changed to this…

Sorry Soxman…used cool twice. Second one should have been “sweet” or “super”.
There was a time when the “good guys in black” new sox logo replaced all Raiders gear as the most “gangsta” logo for rappers…
1, 2, 3, and to the 4…
Banks, is that a pic of Sara Spain in a blonde moment? Guess not…she wouldn’t be caught dead in a Sox hat.
“….Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre is at the door”
Remember the video with all 40 oz s in it?
Which one, the pic of Aguilera? She’s not wearing a Sox hat, but she does have a nice rack of lamb. You’re right, though…unless I’m getting paid to cover them for a story I ain’t wearin’ Sox gear.
Mr. Banks: “Step away from the players’ GFs.”
It took 15 innings but we got the job done! Twins lose!
I couldn’t find the picture of Christina in a 1983 Sox hat anywhere on the web. The comment by Sarah praising Aguilera’s chest probably just increased site page visits and hit count by 40%
come on sarah, you could wear something fisk-e` wouldn’t ya?
