Fellow sports writers.

Isn’t debate what makes baseball great? I was not comparing Mark Buehrle to CC Sabathia for the purposes of trying to lay claim who is the more dominant pitcher or who even is the better pitcher. The point was to raise thought provoking topics in saying that Mark Buehrle is getting paid about a third of what CC Sabathia is being paid and besides strikeouts, which I never said were not important the number are actually very comparable.

Age is irrelevant, major league service time is. “Mr. Perfect” had ONE more year of major league experience than CC Sabathia and in Buehrle’s first year in the majors, he broke in as a reliever, only starting THREE games. Sabathia has been a starter is entire career.

So for the sake of argument of “age” meaning experience, if you take Buehrle’s first year, and all the stats associated with it away, Buehrle has still pitched 129 more innings than Sabathia AND has two more wins.

CC is a power pitcher while Buehrle is more of a finesse guy so I’m not debating the strikeouts. As a “call out” to Pete Anderson, I’m also not debating who I would draft first in fantasy baseball. But when you think of one of the better pitchers in the last nine years, Buehrle’s name never even comes up.

It’s time to start questioning why?

Thank god he's on my fantasy team :-D. I do agree with Schmidt though. He's underrated, but give it a couple more years before comparing cc and buerhle outright. plus cc shouldve had a no hitter last year, but I think I might be a bit bias.

Sure, Buerhle is underrated, but the CC comparison doesn't hold a ton of water....He's younger, has pitched two less seasons in the majors, and has almost 350 more strikeouts.

And yes, strikeouts are important.

After I interviewed him before opening day, I compared him to White Sox legend Billy Pierce, another lefty with similar career numbers. Pierce had a perfect game going in '58 until Fitzgerald of the Washington Senators doubled off him withn two out in the 9th. NOw Burles has 2 things up on Pierce a perfecto and a ring!
