The woes for Jose Mourinho and Chelsea just keep persisting. As the losses mount and Mourinho’s seat warms, the embattled Blues boss has found new and creative ways to publicly express his frustrations. In recent weeks, we’ve been treated to Mourinho: firing a classless passive-aggressive shot at Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger, calling a reporter’s line of questioning stupid, admitting that this is the worst period of his career, showing some despair regrading his ability to fix the situation, saying he is “not a magician” after one loss and calling some of his own players “rats.”
Mourinho is a man who’s never at a loss for words, but there may actually come a time when he truly runs out of things to say. That time is not today however, as he says the club can sack him if they want. He won’t leave voluntarily.
‘I don’t run away,’ Jose Mourinho said today after Chelsea lost 3-1 to Southampton.
‘Two, if the club wants to sack me they have to sack me because I’m not running away from my responsibilities or my team.’
It was all part of a seven minute rant, as Chelsea are off to their worst start in 37 years, a season which saw the Blues relegated. Jose Mourinho remains defiant though about how high he can guide this team. He believes Chelsea will remain in Champions League under his leadership.
‘I’m more than convinced that we can finish in the top four and in a season so bad, finishing top four is OK.’
‘If the club sacks me they sack the best manager this club ever had. This is a moment for everyone to take responsibility and stick together.
‘The players have to play until the end of the season with champions on their shirt and I want to work. I have a big ego, I consider myself the best. This hurts me a lot — it hurts me as a professional and hurts me because I love the club.’
