While Chelsea FC are currently enjoying a very glorious run of incredible form, not every single player is joining in on the fun. Midfielder John Mikel Obi isn’t seeing much playing time this season under new manager Antonio Conte, as the Blues are now sitting on top of the table, largely on the strength of a 6-0 streak, in which they have outscored their opponents 17-0.
Mikel has been coy about his future and he indicated he could leave the Premier League giant come January transfer window.
“I will keep doing my best and ready for when called up upon,” before adding. “We will see what happens in January.”
Read into that what you will but it sounds like he’s opening the door for a transfer without burning any of his current bridges.
John Mikel Obi discussed the lack of opportunities he’s having now at Stamford Bridge since the former Italian National Team Manager took over. Under previous manager Jose Mourinho, there was more of a place for the 6’2″ 190 Nigerian international.
Mikel told BBC World Service Sport the following:
“I have never been a guy who made excuses in life, I never shy away from my responsibilities,”
“I have to keep training hard and make sure I change the manager’s mind. I have been professional, I train and work everyday with the team and I hope one day I will get to play.”
“I have written my name in the history of this football club and I have won loads of trophies. I have played close to 400 game and have no single regret. I still want to win more and help the team. Players move on in life but I am relaxed about January. I will speak to the club find the best solution.”
In other words, it sounds like his agent is already looking into landing spots for John Mikel Obi
