Chelsea have joined the transfer chase for Watford‘s Odion Ighalo as their summer striker shake-up looms. According to the Daily Mirror:
The Blues are one of several clubs impressed by Nigeria international Ighalo’s performances during his first season in the Premier League.
Chelsea already have a number of strikers under consideration for a short-term move this month. But they are keen to see whether Ighalo could be a candidate for a summer switch.
It appears Stamford Bridge could be rivaling Manchester United yet again for a transfer target. That is, if United are really in, which they should be, because he fills a need. Arsenal have been linked to Ighalo too.
Until recently, Watford has sort of been this year’s Leicester City Light- a recently promoted club that have been exceeding everyone’s expectations of them. While the Foxes are title contenders at best, and top four material at worst, the Hornets have spent most of the season in a place above what was anticipated. Before a recent dry spell, they had resided in 8th.
Led by Odion Ighalo and his 13 goals this season, Watford are two places and four points ahead of Chelsea in the table currently.
Two weeks ago, Ighalo told The Sun that he’d struggle to pass up an opportunity to move to Old Trafford…should the situation arise.
Ighalo was quoted: “There has been speculation from Spain and Italy but I’ve played there and now want to play in England.
“I don’t think I will be moving but I’m not sure I’d say no if United called.”
“They were my team growing up. I loved watching Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke on TV.”
“They were my idols and playing at Old Trafford has always been a dream.”
