Before Liverpool hired Jurgen Klopp they targeted Carlo Ancelotti. That’s the claim of former Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur Manager Harry Redknapp.
“I have heard from good sources that he (Ancelotti) was offered the Liverpool job,” Redknapp is quoted in TalkSport.
“I don’t think (he wanted it). They spoke to him at some stage.”
That’s quite interesting given that
1.) Ancelotti revealed this week that he would like to manage in the Premier League next, possibly as early as Sunday, and
2.) Liverpool, in late September, denied that made contact with Ancelotti.
Today, Ancelotti himself refuted the idea that he was approached by Liverpool.
Ancelotti told Goal.com:
“When a job becomes available, they always use the names of the coaches currently without a team, so my name was thrown out there.
“But I never had any direct contact with the directors of Liverpool.”
Ancelotti has experience managing Paris St. Germain, Real Madrid and Chelsea.
