Now that Gameday will be here, I want to revisit the most outrageous sign from the last time College Gameday came to a Northwestern “home game.”
Remember the goofy “everyone drives the same direction” battle at Wrigley Field in 2010? Gameday showed up and the publicity was great for Northwestern.
In the game itself, Ron Zook and the Illinois Fighting Illini OBLITERATED the Wildcats 48-22 as Mikel Leshoure rushed for an Illinois school record 330 yards. One of the biggest problems for NU that day was the fact that their starting QB was Evan Watkins. It was unfortunate because dual threat star QB Dan Persa went down with a ruptured achilles at home versus Iowa. Enter Watkins, who was pretty bad at playing QB. And he wasn’t really much of a college football player at all really.
He is no longer with the team, but the ESPN acronym Gameday sign he inspired lives on today.
Behold the excellence:
By the way, this sign idea for Saturday is pretty funny too
