Northwestern suspended their star tailback Venric Mark for the first two games of the season. No actual reason was given, only the college football standard boilerplate “violation of team rules.”
Venric Mark will sit out the Aug. 30 opener against California at Ryan Field and the matchup with Northern Illinois on Sept. 6 in Evanston.
In a prepared statement, sent out by the school at 6:01 PM CST on Friday August 8th….because that’s exactly the kind of time that you send out this kind of news (after business hours on a Friday) the following quotes are attributed to Mark:
“I made a mistake and am prepared to deal with the consequences of that.”
“There’s no one that holds me to a higher standard than the one I hold myself to, so nobody is more disappointed than I am. First and foremost, I feel like I let my teammates down, and that feels the worst. I’m grateful to have another season to compete with this team. My focus moving forward is on working as hard as I can in camp and supporting my teammates in practice and on gamedays so that we can achieve our goals this season.”
As you already know, Venric Mark missed almost all of last season with a “lower body injury.” We’ll keep you posted if we find out what Marknado did that got him suspended.
