Evan Turner really wants the Chicago Bulls in NBA Playoffs

evan-turner-cheerleaders

Philadelphia 76ers guard and 2010 #2 overall pick Evan Turner is looking forward to a potential  match-up against his hometown Chicago Bulls. After Turner scored a career high 29 points on the Milwaukee Bucks last night, I asked Turner about the potential first round playoff match-up with the Bulls.

“We probably match-up better with them, they’re by far the best team in the East, but our personnel, we match up better with them, so you never know,” he answered.

He also expressed similar sentiments in social media.

2010 #2 pick Evan Turner progresses in 2nd year with Sixers

evan-turner-76ers

When the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Evan Turner #2 overall out of Ohio State in 2010, they thought they were selecting a franchise cornerstone. Finishing his college basketball career with the Buckeyes, he was as highly decorated as a player can be- sweeping all the national individual awards.

His rookie year did anything but live up to the hype however. Turner really struggled to find a position and his way in Coach Doug Collins‘ rotation. He’s really found himself as a one now in the league. But in his debut season he was playing a lot of two and three. Hence, his rookie numbers were brutal.

This season though, is a new chapter. The Chicago product has earned more playing time and his numbers have improved across the board.

And in the season’s second to last game, Turner started and scored a new career high in points with 29.

UPDATED 2012-2013 college basketball preseason top 25

ucla hoops

Here is an updated on my preseason Top 25 for the 2012-2013 college basketball.  With transfers, the decisions of some previously undeclared top high school recruits, and players declaring their intentions to return to school or leave for the NBA Draft, there has been a lot of movement since I released my original rankings the day after the National Championship game.  (Click here for a list of NBA Draft early entries.) Leave a comment below if you think a team is too high, too low, not getting enough respect, or if you notice an error in a projected roster.  (Click here for my way too early preseason rankings from last season.)

81,000 take in Ohio State football spring game: stats, news and notes

ohio-state-buckeyes

Ohio Stadium hosted the Ohio State Spring Game yesterday and 81,112 people showed up. That’s even more than Alabama, or any of the SEC teams this year. And those places ABSOLUTELY LIVE for college football. Even the preseason exhibition kind.

However, the Buckeyes drew even more fans than any of the Bible Belt powerhouse programs- which tells you just how utterly insane people in Columbus truly are. But enough judging and condescension, let’s get to the football takeaways from today’s Scarlet and Gray game.

Ohio State spring game rosters set: scarlet vs. grey

ohio state buckeyes cheerleaders

Ohio State’s football Spring Game takes place Saturday afternoon at Ohio Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m. Scarlet head coach Tom Herman and Gray coach Luke Fickell led their respective staffs in a draft. They refuse to tell us which player was the first overall pick, for whatever reason.

Braxton Miller will quarterback Herman’s Scarlet team and he’ll work behind an offensive line that includes four players – Jack Mewhort, Corey Linsley, Marcus Hall and Reid Fragel – who have worked with the first team this spring. Johnathan Hankins, Ryan Shazier and Travis Howard are among the key Scarlet defenders.

Ohio State football has sold 40,000 tickets to spring scrimmage already!

ohio-stadium

For most college football teams, the annual spring game is free. It is after all an intrasquad scrimmage, an exhibition game. But most schools aren’t Ohio State, where Buckeyes football is a crazy cult with an insane following overly obsessed with the sport. It’s not a game or entertainment to the BUCKNUTS out there; who have no problem paying $7 each in advance and $15 on game day (cash only) to watch the team play against itself.

As of Monday, they already had sold 40,000 tickets. So that’s $280,000 gross for a preseason scrimmage. Don’t be surprised if they get 60-70,000 to the horseshoe for this.

(UPDATE: As of Wednesday, the number was up to 46,000)

Ohio State football practice draws 3,100 people

buckeyes-fans

Time to cue up the Allen Iverson “PRACTICE?? We’re talking about practice man.” rant. 3,100 people showed up to watch the Ohio State football team practice indoors today.

Think about it: Ohio State had 3,100 fans show up for a practice that had a change-of-venue within an hour of its start.

Seriously, Central Ohio must be sorely lacking in entertainment/recreational activities.

Urban Meyer finds Ohio State defense ahead of offense thus far

Ohio-State-logo

The first Ohio State Buckeyes spring football season of Urban Meyer is about 1/3 way through. Much like last season, in which the defense was rather superior to the offense, Meyer expects the d have an advantage over the o in the early spring practice sessions.

“This early, the defense better win,” Meyer told about 35 assembled members of the media after practice. “They are playing well. The defense has two guys – John Simon and Johnathan Hankins – who are disrupting everything.”

Look for John Simon to be one of the most dominatnt defensive players on both the Buckeyes and in the Big Ten this year.
