Green Bay Packers take Alabama’s Eddie Lacy in round 2

green-bay-packers-eddie-lacy

Eddie Lacy of the Alabama Crimson Tide ended up a 2nd round NFL Draft pick, and the fourth running back taken. As there’s no stud running back in this class. I thought Eddie Lacy would be first.

Montee Ball was the third running back taken in the Draft behind North Carolina’s Giovani Bernard (Cincinnati – 37th overall) and Michigan State’s Le’veon Bell (Pittsburgh – 48th overall). The Green Bay Packers were rumored to be interested in Ball, but didn’t get the chance to take him and opted to select Alabama’s Eddie Lacy 61st overall, just three picks later.

In the national championship game DESTRUCTION of Notre Dame, Eddie Lacy was named the Offensive MVP after rushing for 140 yards and scoring two touchdowns.

Fat people rule in NFL Draft: Offensive Linemen? Yawn.

fat-people-nfl-draft

When I realized around 4 pm that Eric Fisher OT of Central Michigan was going to be the #1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, I declared this the dumbest draft ever; three hours before it even started. I was right.

Someone no one had heard of it or even cared about three months ago was about to come the NFL’s newest highly paid franchise player. Then it became the offensive linemen draft. HOW EXCITING! AND INTERESTING! Right now I’m going to find a crappy 2-star recruit starting for a middle tier MAC school and mock him first in my 2015 NFL mock draft. That way I’ll scoop everybody.

Linebackers drafted: Georgia Bulldogs 2, Notre Dame 0

georgia-bulldogs

Georgia Bulldogs linebackers Jarvis Jones and Alec Ogletree were selected 17th and 30th last night in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Manti Teo from Notre Dame was picked….well, his first draft status was imaginary. I don’t mean to keep piling on Teo….Yes, I do. Two Georgia Bulldogs LBs heard their names called at Radio City Music Hall; and ZERO LBs from Notre Dame came to the podium.

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Jarvis Jones 17 while the St. Louis Rams picked Ogletree 30.

Maybe Geno Smith meant to tweet Sat instead of Thu

geno-smith

Maybe Geno Smith shouldn’t have typed that chip-on-the-shoulder tweet.

Maybe Geno Smith taught us that all NFL mock drafts are useless and predictive of nothing. I had him mocked #2 to Jacksonville. So did Michael Irvin of NFL Network. Everyone had him #1 among quarterbacks. For a good 4-6 months of 2012-13, Geno Smith was the consensus #1 in most mocks. That seems like a long time ago.

Because the NFL said “hey, thanks for coming” to Geno Smith last night.

nfl-draft-goodell

The 2013 NFL Draft is less than a week away. Expect Twitter to be overloaded Thursday night when the first round commences. Remember last year when the Miami Dolphins drafted Ryan Tannehill, and wife Lauren Tannehill or Lauren Ufer “broke the internet.” There was search and social media activity then which rivaled Katherine Webb during the Crimson Tide crushing of Notre Dame in the title game.

Here’s my first round mock with the detailed player of analysis of the 2013 NFL Draft.

And our full 7 round mock of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Salorix, a social media firm, is analyzing tweets during the NFL Draft. Here’s what they’ve found so far.

What will the Green Bay Packers do in the 2013 NFL Draft?

datone jones

Free agency came and went without much activity for the Green Bay Packers.

This shouldn’t come as much a surprise to die-hard cheese heads because General Manager Ted Thompson and the Packers have always banked their future on the NFL Draft and the ensuing development of young talent.

Green Bay snatched up it’s best two players in QB Aaron Rodgers (’05 draft) and LB Clay Matthews (’09) via the annual selection of college players and they haven’t turned back since while finding countless value-picks in the Thompson era.

After a quiet off-season, what players will be on the radar of one of the NFL’s premier teams in 2013? [Read more...]

Illini 1st in Big Ten for NFL 1st round picks since ’08

illini-rose-bowl

The Illini don’t win on most college football Saturdays, but they do always win:

NFL Draft night and 2nd-3rd tier bowl games.

Please don’t bring up the Illini in the Rose Bowl or the BCS. Nevertheless, April sees a “March” of Illini to the NFL every year, despite how poorly the team performs on the field.

Illini football boasts the most 1st-round NFL Draft picks of any Big Ten program since 2008. Not bad for a college basketball school!

And SHOCKING when you consider the team has gone 24-38 the past five years. However, that number can be misleading. If you throw out the 2-10 train wreck of last year (and please, can we throw that out? and burn it to ashes and never speak of it again?) And you add in the fluky Rose Bowl year of 2007 (record 9-4) the 5 year overall record ends up at 31-32.

Using the 2007-11 record is much more accurate than ’08-’12 for NFL Draft pick evaluation purposes. However, that’s still WAY TOO  much talent to be under .500.

2013 Buccaneers NFL mock draft: all 7 rounds FINAL

kate-upton-buccaneers

This is a reader submission from an author who wishes to remain anonymous. Who will the Tampa Bay Buccaneers draft this April?

Well obviously, we’ll have to wait until Friday now with the Darrelle Revis deal done. Is he damaged goods? Do the New York Jets know something we don’t? The creator of this Tampa Bay Buccaneers draft mock is a dedicated fan who’s been a season ticket holder for 10 years. So he knows what he’s talking about.

You know who else is a dedicated Buccaneers fan? Kate Upton. That’s right, as you’ll see from the pic below and this post here, the world’s hottest woman, Kate Upton likes the Buccaneers.

We could have an openly gay NFL Kicker: Alan Gendreau

nfl-draft-alan-gendreau

Alan Gendreau on paper, seems like a contradiction. All of his “check box” classifications defy stereotypes. Alan Gendreau is a hard-core Christian who grew up in the Bible Belt and played college football in the south. He’s a placekicker for the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders; and he’s openly gay.

Perhaps by the end of this weekend, when the NFL draft has completed; we’ll see an openly gay player in the National Football League (NFL). And maybe that will be Alan Gendreau.

Take the NFL Draft aptitude Wonderlic test! HERE!

2011_nfl_draft-wonderlic-test

Ah, the mysteries of the Wonderlic Test. Pat McInally of Harvard is the only NFL Draft prospect to ever achieve a perfect score of 50 on the Wonderlic Test, the famous aptitude test administered to former college football players vying to impress NFL scouts at the Draft Scouting Combine. Boston College graduate/workout warrior/NFL bust Mike Mamula reportedly scored 49 on the Wonderlic test. Ryan Fitzpatrick, also a Harvard graduate and the Buffalo Bills starting QB, scored 48 in just nine minutes.

Former member of the New England Patriots and current Cleveland Browns tight end Benjamin Watson also scored a 48, tied with Fitzpatrick for highest among current NFL players.
