I am well aware that the 2012 NBA Draft has not even occurred yet. Still, we are looking ahead to the 2013 NBA Draft with insanely early projections on how it may unfold. Team needs and outstanding trades have NOT been taken into consideration with this 2013 NBA mock draft. Click on the players’ name for a complete, in-depth scouting report.

(By the way, The Sports Bank was graded as the most accurate 2011 NBA Mock Draft on the web.)

CLICK HERE FOR THE SPORTS BANK’S 2012 NBA MOCK DRAFT

1. Charlotte- Shabazz Muhammed, G/F, Undecided, 6-6, HS Sr.
Considered by most as the top recruit in the 2012 class, Shabazz Muhammed has a complete, all-around game for a wing player.

2. Detroit- Nerlens Noel, PF/C, Undecided, 6-10, HS Sr.
An extremely athletic, lengthy big man who protects the rim like Anthony Davis, Nerlens Noel recently reclassified to the 2012 class which will make him draft eligible in 2013.

3. New Orleans- Quincy Miller, SF, Baylor, 6-9, Fr.
A gifted athlete with a smooth jump shot, Quincy Miller could benefit from another year in college to get stronger.

Go here for more on Quincy Miller

4. Washington- Steven Adams, C, Pitt, 7-0, HS Sr.
The New Zealand native has the ideal size to be a true NBA big man and the developing skill set to match.

5. Sacramento- Kyle Anderson, SF, UCLA, 6-7, HS Sr.
Kyle Anderson is a smooth, all-around talent who can play a point forward type roll.

6. Toronto- Cody Zeller, C, Indiana, 6-11, Fr.
The Hoosier is so talented for a young big man and has such a terrific feel for the game, but needs to get stronger before making the leap to the league.

Go here for more on Cody Zeller

7. New Jersey- James McAdoo, F, North Carolina, 6-9, Fr.
He comes off the bench at UNC but would likely blossom next season in a premiere role.

Go here for more on James McAdoo

8. Golden State- Austin Rivers, SG, Duke, 6-4, Fr.
A pure scorer, Doc’s son is extremely dangerous off the bounce but can also stroke it from deep.

Go here for more on Austin Rivers

9. Phoenix- Isaiah Austin, C, Baylor, 7-0, HS Sr.
The future Bear is a rim protector with great length and athleticism but a lack of physicality is a concern.

10. New York- Myck Kabongo, PG, Texas, 6-1, Fr.
A pure distributor, the Canada-native would benefit from another year of playing the point at the college level before leaving for the NBA.

11. Cleveland- Mason Plumlee, PF, Duke, 6-10, Jr.
Athletically gifted, the middle Plumlee makes his biggest impact on the glass, but has a fairly limited offensive game.

Go here for more on the Plumlees

12. Minnesota- Dario Saric, SF, Croatia, 6-10, 1994
The prototypical, versatile European prospect, Dario Saric has great fundamentals for his size but must get stronger.

13. Memphis- Dion Waiters, G, Syracuse, 6-4, Soph.
The Orange sixth man is dangerous off the bounce and can also shoot it from deep. I’d like to see him in a prominent, starter’s role before he makes the jump to the NBA.

14. Houston- Tim Hardaway Jr., SG, Michigan, 6-5, Soph.
The Wolverine sophomore can score the basketball in a variety of ways.s

Go here for more on Tim Hardaway Jr.

15. Milwaukee- LeBryan Nash, SF, Oklahoma State, 6-7, Fr.
LeBryan Nash has NBA-ready size and athleticism but needs to work on his outside shot.

Go here for more on Lebryan Nash

16. Boston- Trey Burke, PG, Michigan, 5-11, Fr.
A mature young floor general, Trey Burke is quick with the basketball when attacking the hoop but can also knock down shots from the perimeter.

17. L.A. Lakers- Fab Melo, C, Syracuse, 7-0, So.
If Fab Melo can make a step as a junior like he has done during his sophomore season, he will be a first round pick.

18. Portland- Adonis Thomas, G/F, Memphis, 6-6, Fr.
Already blessed with an NBA-ready build, Adonis Thomas is a tough match-up due to his strength, athleticism, and ability to shoot the ball.

Go here for more on Adonis Thomas

19. Orlando- Ryan Harrow, PG, Kentucky, 6-2, Soph.
The N.C. State transfer will greatly benefit from playing the point under John Calipari.

20. Utah- Rodney Hood, SF, Mississippi State, 6-8, Fr.
The athletic lefty has a smooth stroke from the perimeter.

21. San Antonio- Royce White, PF, Iowa State, 6-8, So.
The big fella can handle the ball like a guard but also knows how to throw his body around down low.

Go here for more on Royce White

22. Dallas- Allan Crabbe, SG, California, 6-6, Soph.
A talented shooter with ideal size for a two-guard, Allan Crabbe needs to improve his dribble-drive game.

23. Denver- C.J. Leslie, F, N.C. State, 6-9, Soph.
A ridiculous athlete who excels above the rim, C.J. Leslie will need to develop the other areas of his game to be a first round pick.

24. L.A. Clippers- Christian Watford, F, Indiana, 6-9, Jr.
Christian Watford is an athletic, skilled combo forward with good size.

Go here for more on Christian Watford

25. Indiana- Jarnell Stokes, PF, Tennessee, 6-8, Fr.
Jarnell Stokes enrolled in college a semester early, but is already a man down low due to his size, strength, and skill.

26. Atlanta- Fuquan Edwin, G/F, Seton Hall, 6-6, Soph.
Fuquan Edwin is an athletic wing who is a terrific perimeter defender.

27. Philadelphia- LaDontae Henton, SF, Providence, 6-6, Fr.
The lefty is an inside/outside threat who rebounds the ball very well and one of my early, early sleepers for the 2013 Draft.

28. Miami- Lucas Noguiera, C, Brazil, 7-0, 1992
A raw seven-footer, Lucas Noguiera has been on scout’s radars for a while due to his size and athleticism.

29. Oklahoma City- Deonte Burton, PG, Nevada, 6-1, Soph.
Deonte Burton can be a distributing play-maker but also knows how to score the rock.

30. Chicago- Khris Middleton, SF, Texas A&M, 6-7, Jr.
The Aggie junior has battled injury this season but has a nice inside/outside game.

SECOND ROUND
31. Charlotte- Alex Oriakhi, PF, UConn, 6-9, Jr.

32. Detroit- Maalik Wayns, PG, Villanova, 6-2, Jr.

The 2012 NBA Draft figures to consist of a deeper, more talented group of prospects that the 2011 class. Team needs HAVE been taken into consideration with this 2012 NBA mock draft and the order is based on the current NBA standings. Click on the players’ name for a complete, in-depth scouting report.

(By the way, The Sports Bank was graded as the most accurate 2011 NBA Mock Draft on the web.)

UPDATED: 2/2/12

31. Charlotte- Draymond Green, F, Michigan State, 6-6, Sr.
A young team like the Bobcats would benefit having somebody with Draymond Green’s versatility and basketball IQ on their roster.

Go here for more on Draymond Green

32. Detroit- Alex Young, G/F, IUPUI, 6-6, Sr.
Pistons could use some depth and scoring on the wing.

33. Cleveland (from NO)- Darius Miller, G/F, Kentucky, 6-8, Sr.
The Cavs really need an up-grade of talent on the wing and Darius Miller could be a useful role player off the bench.

34. Washington- Darius Johnson-Odom, SG, Marquette, 6-3, Sr.
Depth at the two would make sense since Nick Young becomes a free agent after this season.

35. Sacramento- Kevin Jones, F, West Virginia, 6-8, Sr.
Jones is having a monster senior season for the Mountaineers and would be a solid value pick at this point of the draft.

36. Toronto- Hollis Thompson, SF, Georgetown, 6-8, Jr.
Hollis Thompson is a terrific shooter with good size who could provide a scoring punch off the Raps’ bench.

37. Golden State (from NJ)- Damien Lillard, PG, Weber State, Jr.
The Warriors signed Nate Robinson as a short term, back-up point guard. Damien Lillard could be the long-term answer behind Stephen Curry.

38. Denver (from GS)- Scott Machado, PG, Iona, 6-1, Sr.
Scott Machado is one of the best pure distributors in college basketball and provides insurance at the point in case Andre Miller leaves via free agency.

39. Atlanta (from PHX)- Andrew Nicholson, PF, St. Bonaventure, 6-9, Sr.
Again, with only six players under contract for next season, Hawks need depth everywhere and go best available player.n

Go here for more on Andrew Nicholson

40. New York- Tyshawn Taylor, PG, Kansas, 6-3, Sr.
Knicks need depth all across the board but are still searching for an answer at the point.

41. Cleveland- Robert Sacre, C, Gonzaga, 7-0, Sr.
The Cavs would be wise to use one of their picks in this draft in finding a true center.

42. Houston (from MIN)- Augusto Cesar Lima, PF, Brazil, 6-10, 1991
With four picks in this draft, the Rockets will take at least two foreign players who they can hope will develop overseas and contribute down the line.

43. Memphis- JaMychal Green, PF, Alabama, 6-8, Sr.
The Tide senior is a solid value at this point and would add some depth inside for the Griz.

44. Detroit (from HOU)- Furkan Aldemir, PF, Turkey, 6-9, 1991
With their third pick of the draft, Pistons go the foreign route. (This pick stays with Houston if is between #31-#40.)

45. Milwaukee- Henry Sims, C, Georgetown, 6-10, Sr.
The Bucks don’t have a true back-up big man for Andrew Bogut; a role that Sims could maybe fill.

46. Boston- Orlando Johnson, SG, UC-Santa Barbara, 6-5, Sr.
C’s should look to add depth at the two in case free agent-to-be Ray Allen doesn’t return next season.

47. Dallas (from LAL)- Ricardo Ratliffe, PF, Missouri, 6-9, Sr.
The Mizzou big man has a chance to stick on an NBA roster due the energy and physicality he brings to the floor.

48. Portland- Jordan Taylor, PG, Wisconsin, 6-1, Sr.
Taylor gives the Blazers an option at the point in case Raymond Felton leaves via free agency.

Go here for more on Jordan Taylor

49. Orlando- Jarrod Jones, PF, Ball State, 6-9, Sr.
Like I said earlier, since their future hinges on Dwight Howard’s status, anything is possible so I’ll give the Magic the best available player.

50. Utah- Dee Bost, PG, Mississippi State, 6-2, Sr.
Jazz could use an up-grade at the point guard position.

51. San Antonio- Marcus Denmon, SG, Missouri, 6-3, Sr.
Marcus Denmon seems like the type of energy/role player who could find a home in San Antonio.

52. Washington (from DAL)- Renardo Sidney, PF, Mississippi State, 6-10, Jr.
When you are a team starving for talent, you can afford to take a risk on Renardo Sidney with your third pick of the draft.

53. Denver- Herb Pope, PF, Seton Hall, 6-8, Sr.
Herb Pope could stick on a NBA roster due to his ability to crash the glass and hit mid-range shots.

54. L.A. Clippers- Drew Gordon, PF, New Mexico, 6-9, Sr.
The former UCLA transfer could possibly provide the Clips with a rebounding, role player to bring off the bench.

55. Indiana- Reggie Johnson, C, Miami FL, 6-10, Jr.
Adding a big man behind Roy Hibbert, who is a restricted free agent this summer, seems like a wise move.

56. Atlanta- Tu Holloway, PG, Xavier, 6-0, Sr.
Kirk Hinrich is a free agent so the Hawks could use options at the point behind Marquis Teague.

57. Philadelphia- Jae Crowder, F, Marquette, 6-6, Sr.
Crowder could find a home in Philly thanks to his toughness, shooting ability, and versatility.

58. New Jersey (from MIA)- Kim English, G/F, Missouri, 6-6, Sr.
Kim English has a solid all-around game that could find him a home in the league.

59. Minnesota (from OKC)- Mike Scott, PF, Virginia, 6-8, Sr.
Scott is an inside/outside forward who could provide depth in case Michael Beasley is not back next season.

60. L.A. Lakers (from CHI)- Kyle O’Quinn, C, Norfolk State, 6-10, Sr.
Lakers need to find depth at every position and O’Quinn could find a spot on their roster due to his size.

The 2012 NBA Draft figures to consist of a deeper, more talented group of prospects that the 2011 class. Team needs HAVE been taken into consideration with this 2012 NBA mock draft and the order is based off the current NBA standings. Click on the players’ name for a complete, in-depth scouting report. Check out The Sports Bank’s NFL Mock Draft as well.

(By the way, The Sports Bank was graded as the most accurate 2011 NBA Mock Draft on the web.)

Check out our ridiculously early 2013 NBA Mock Draft.

UPDATED: 2/2/12

1. Charlotte- Anthony Davis, PF, Kentucky, 6-10, Fr.
Regardless of who gets the #1 pick, Anthony Davis will likely be the selection. The Bobcats are bad, I mean REALLY bad so they could use talent at every position except point guard. Davis and Bismack Biyombo could be the frontcourt of the future in Charlotte.

Go here for more on Anthony Davis

2. Detroit- Andre Drummond, C, UConn, 6-10, Fr.
The Pistons would use a big body inside to compliment the skill level of Greg Monroe. Andre Drummond or Thomas Robinson would be options but it is hard to pass up a potential franchise center like Drummond.

Is Drummond the next NBA franchise center? Go here for more.

3. New Orleans- Thomas Robinson, PF, Kansas, 6-9, Jr.
This would be a slam dunk for the Hornets. Robinson fills a need at power forward and is ready to be an impact player right away. Is it too early to declare him the Rookie of the Year favorite for next season?

4. Washington- Harrison Barnes, SF, North Carolina, 6-8, So.
If the Wizards could draft “chemistry” with their first round pick, they should do so. Washington did just draft Chris Singleton who plays the three and still has Rashard Lewis and his horrendous contract (how did they not amnesty him, seriously?) but Barnes is the best player on the board.

Go here for more on Harrison Barnes

5. Sacramento- Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF, Kentucky, 6-7, Fr.
I love, love, LOVE this pick for the Kings. MK-G is a talented, all-around player and maybe most importantly for Sacramento; a winner. Sacramento has a lot of scorers but lack a true glue guy who can impact the game without needing to score like Kidd-Gilchrist can. (This pick goes to Cleveland if it falls out of the lottery.)

Go here for more on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

6. Toronto- Jared Sullinger, PF, Ohio State, 6-9, So.
The Raptors could go in a number of directions but a player with his size and physicality in the post would be a nice compliment to Andre Bargnani or Ed Davis.

Go here for more on Jared Sullinger

7. New Jersey- Perry Jones, F, Baylor, 6-11, So.
Assuming the Nets don’t land Dwight Howard via trade, they will lose Deron Williams next off-season and pretty much be starting from scratch. Jones is the best available player and also fills a need at power forward since Kris Humphries only signed a one-year deal.

Go here for more on Perry Jones

8. Utah (from GS via NJ)- Moe Harkless, SF, St. John’s, 6-8, Fr.
The Jazz have a lot of young talent and will go in one of two directions; a point guard or small forward. I am really high on Harkless (obviously) and he is better than any point guard on the board and provides depth in case C.J. Miles and Josh Howard leave via free agency. (This pick stays with Golden State if it falls in the top 7.)

Go here to see why I am buying Harkless’ stock

9. Phoenix- Jeremy Lamb, SG, UConn, 6-5, So.
The Suns would seriously look at taking a point guard since Steve Nash is a free agent but the ninth pick would be reaching for a guy like Maruis Teague, Tony Wroten, or Kendall Marshall. Jeremy Lamb would give them needed depth on the wing since Jared Dudley and the worthless Josh Childress are the only ones under contract for next season.

10. Houston (from NY)- Meyers Leonard, C, Illinois, 7-1, So.
Hasheem Thabeet certainly isn’t the long-term solution and Samuel Dalembert is more of a temporary fix meaning the Rockets could use a center. I am not as high on Meyers Leonard as other mock boards but because of his size and athleticism, he will be a lottery pick.

Go here for more on Meyers Leonard

11. Cleveland- Terrence Ross, SG, Washington, 6-6, So.
The Cavs biggest need is on the wing where there are a few options. Terrence Ross is a talented all-around scorer who could become the backcourt mate of the future for Kyrie Irving. I’ll give him the edge over Bradley Beal.

12. New Orleans (from LAC via MIN)- Bradley Beal, SG, Florida, 6-3, Fr.
It doesn’t seem like Stephen Jackson will be the answer at two guard for the Bucks so taking Bradley Beal makes sense. Plus with Carlos Delfino a free agent after this season, Milwaukee will be looking for some scoring on the wing.

Go here for more on Bradley Beal

13. Memphis- Tony Wroten, PG, Washington, 6-5, Fr.
The Griz could use improved depth at just about every position so a player like Tony Wroten who is capable of playing either backcourt position would make sense and provide insurance in case O.J. Mayo leaves via free agency.

14. Houston- Marquis Teague, PG, Kentucky, 6-2, Fr.
In addressing their need for size with their earlier pick, the Rockets should look for a back-up to Kyle Lowry since Goran Dragic is a free agent and Jonny Flynn doesn’t seem to be the answer.

Go here for more on Marquis Teague

15. Milwaukee- Doron Lamb, SG, Kentucky, 6-4, So.
It doesn’t seem like Stephen Jackson will be the answer at two guard for the Bucks and starting small forward Carlos Delfino is a free agent so grabbing a scorer on the wing would be a wise decision.

16. Boston- Arnett Moultrie, PF, Mississippi State, 6-11, Jr.
The Celtics could use improved depth at just about every position, but with Kevin Garnett and Jermaine O’Neal both free agents, adding a big body is the direst need. Finding a potential Ray Allen replacement would be another option since he too is a free agent.

17. L.A. Lakers- Kendall Marshall, PG, North Carolina, 6-2, So.
The Lakers need depth at just about every position but their point guard play has been especially poor this season. Marshall is a true distributor who would help Kobe Bryant out to his fantastic court vision.

18. Portland- John Henson, PF, North Carolina, 6-10, Jr.
With Marcus Camby, Greg Oden, and Craig Smith all free agents this summer, the Blazers could use some depth in their frontcourt. John Henson is a great get here and would give the Blazers a shot blocker to pair with LeMarcus Aldridge.

Go here for more on John Henson

19. Orlando- Terrence Jones, F, Kentucky, 6-9, So.
This pick all depends on what happens with Dwight Howard this season so for now, I’ll give the Magic the best available player. If Jones showed more consistency, he would easily be a lottery pick.

20. Minnesota (from Utah)- John Jenkins, SG, Vanderbilt, 6-4, Jr.
The one glaring weakness for the Timberwolves this season has been finding a scoring two guard who can consistently knock down outside shots. That is what John Jenkins’ game is all about. (This pick stays with Utah if it falls in the lottery.)

21. San Antonio- Tyler Zeller, C, North Carolina, 7-0, Sr.
The Spurs need some depth inside and Tyler Zeller would be capable of stepping in right away and being a contributor off the bench.

Go here for more on Tyler Zeller

22. L.A. Lakers (from DAL)- Mike Moser, SF, UNLV, 6-8, So.
The Matt Barnes/Metta World Peace/Luke Walton/Devin Ebanks quarter isn’t the answer at small forward for the Lakers, maybe Moser could be. (This pick stays with Dallas if it falls in the Top 20.)

23. Denver- Will Barton, SG, Memphis, 6-6, So.
Since the Nuggets have most of their core locked up for next season, they turn to “best available player” mode. A point guard would be another option since Andre Miller is a free agent but there is no floor general worth taking this high.

24. Boston (from LAC via OKC)- William Buford, SG, Ohio State, 6-5, Sr.
The Celtics could use some depth at shooting guard since Ray Allen is a free agent. Even if Allen does return, some young legs on the wing would be beneficial. (This pick stays with the Clippers if it falls in the top 10.)

Go here for more on William Buford

25. Indiana- Jeffery Taylor, SF, Vanderbilt, 6-7, Sr.
The Pacers could use some depth at the three behind Danny Granger and Jeffery Taylor is the type of role player who could immediately be a contributor off the bench.

26. Atlanta- Tony Mitchell, SF, North Texas, 6-8, Fr.
With only six players under contract for next season, the Hawks take the best available player. Mitchell is an athletic combo forward who has a lot of room for growth.

27. Philadelphia- Tomas Sotaransky, SG, Czech Republic, 6-6, 1991
Another big body would be the ideal fit for the 76ers since Spencer Hawes is a free agent, but with no big on the board worth a first round pick, selecting a foreign player like Sotaransky who can still develop overseas for another year or two would makes sense.

28. Miami- Festus Ezeli, C, Vanderbilt, 6-11, Sr.
The Heat were so desperate for a big man that they brought in Eddy Curry so their hunt continues for size in the middle. Festus Ezeli is a big body in the middle (not as big as Curry thankfully) and could be a decent option off the bench.

29. Oklahoma City- Kris Joseph, SF, Syracuse, 6-7, Sr.
OKC has most of their players locked up for next season so adding someone like Kris Joseph who has made the most out of being a versatile role player during his career would make a lot of sense. Either that, or drafting a foreign player and stashing him overseas.

30. Chicago- Evan Fournier, SG, France, 6-6, 1992
The Bulls have most of their roster under contract for next season so I think they go the foreign route rather than adding somebody who will ride the pine.

1. Washington- Anthony Davis, PF, Kentucky, 6-10, Fr.
Regardless of who gets the #1 pick, Anthony Davis will likely be the selection. Even though the Wizards have quality youth up-front in JaVale McGee, Andry Blatche, Jan Vesely, Kevin Seraphin, and Trevor Booker, Davis’ skill and potential is too good to pass up. Andre Drummond and Harrison Barnes would be the other options.

Go here for more on Anthony Davis

2. Charlotte- Andre Drummond, C, UConn, 6-10, Fr.
With the exception of the point guard position, the Bobcats need help all across the board especially at center where Byron Mullens and DeSagana Diop are not the answer. Drummond has the makings of a future franchise center but is still rather raw. The Bobcats could choose to keep things in-state and take a safer pick like UNC’s Harrison Barnes or even Thomas Robinson of Kansas.

4. Detroit- Harrison Barnes, SF, North Carolina, 6-8, So.
I think the Pistons would be tempted to take Sullinger and add a bruiser inside to compliment the skill level of Greg Monroe, but Barnes is too good to pass up at this point. Detroit did just sign Tayshaun Prince to an extension but could use some scoring on the wing which Barnes would provide.

Go here for more on Harrison Barnes

5. Toronto- Jared Sullinger, PF, Ohio State, 6-9, So.
The Raptors could go in a number of directions but a player with his size and physicality in the post would be a nice compliment to Andre Bargnani or Ed Davis. Perry Jones of Baylor would be another option but Sullinger is the safer pick and better fit.

Go here for more on Jared Sullinger

7. New Jersey (from GS)- Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF, Kentucky, 6-7, Fr.
Continuing their makeover, MK-G is a talented, all-around player and maybe most importantly for New Jersey; a winner. Building your frontcourt around Jones and Kidd-Gilchrist would help the re-building process immensely. (Utah owns this pick if it falls out of the top seven from the Deron Williams trade.)

Go here for more on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

8. Sacramento- John Henson, PF, North Carolina, 6-10, Jr.
The ideal fit for the Kings would be a small forward but since there is no three worth taking this high, a shot blocker like John Henson would be a nice addition to an already young frontcourt.

Go here for more on John Henson

10. Milwaukee- Bradley Beal, SG, Florida, 6-3, Fr.

11. Cleveland- Terrence Ross, SG, Washington, 6-6, So.
A true center like Meyers Leonard would be a possible pick since the Cavs don’t have a true center, but I think their bigger need is on the wing. Terrence Ross is a talented all-around scorer who could become the backcourt mate of the future for Kyrie Irving.

12. New Orleans (from LAC via MIN)- Marquis Teague, PG, Kentucky, 6-2, Fr.
In addressing their need for a power forward with their earlier pick, the Hornets could go in a number of directions. A play-making point guard like Marquis Teague would give New Orleans a floor leader of the future especially since Jarrett Jack will be entering the final year of his contract next season.

Go here for more on Marquis Teague

13. L.A. Lakers- Tony Wroten, PG, Washington, 6-5, Fr.
The Lakers need depth at just about every position but their point guard play has been especially poor this season. Wroten is a creator and play-maker who would take some of the pressure off Kobe Bryant and also score on his own due to his size and ability to get to the basket off the bounce.

14. Houston- Meyers Leonard, C, Illinois, 7-1, So.
Hasheem Thabeet certainly isn’t the long-term solution and Samuel Dalembert is more of a temporary fix meaning the Rockets could use a center. I am not as high on Meyers Leonard as other mock boards but this would be a good spot for him to land.

Go here for more on Meyers Leonard

15. Houston (from NY)- Kendall Marshall, PG, North Carolina, 6-2, So.
With so much young talent already on their roster, the Rockets don’t really need two more first round picks to add to the mix and would probably look to deal one of their selections. If not, Kendall Marshall adds depth at the point behind Kyle Lowry since Goran Dragic is a free agent and Jonny Flynn doesn’t seem to be part of Houston’s future.

17. Memphis- John Jenkins, SG, Vanderbilt, 6-4, Jr.
The Griz won’t have any glaring needs on their roster for next season but could use a sharpshooter off the bench. John Jenkins is one of the most dangerous three-point shooters in the college game.

18. Dallas- Doron Lamb, SG, Kentucky, 6-4, So.
Jason Terry and Delonte West are both free agents after this season so the Mavs could use a long range scorer which is exactly what Doron Lamb is.

19. Portland- Tyler Zeller, C, North Carolina, 7-0, Sr.
With Marcus Camby, Greg Oden, and Craig Smith all free agents this summer, the Blazers could use some depth in their frontcourt. Point guard would be another possibility since Raymond Felton is a free agent but Portland is not going to find anyone here better than their first round pick from last year, Nolan Smith.

Go here for more on Tyler Zeller

20. San Antonio- Terrence Jones, F, Kentucky, 6-9, So.
Terrence Jones has lottery talent but inconsistencies drop him this low. I actually think he would be a solid fit on the Spurs since he plays hard on the defensive end.

21. L.A. Clippers- William Buford, SG, Ohio State, 6-5, Sr.
Finding frontcourt depth will be a priority for the Clips next summer but so too will adding a true shooting guard since Randy Foye and Chauncey Billups are free agents.

Go here for more on William Buford

22. Minnesota (from Utah)- Jeffery Taylor, SF, Vanderbilt, 6-7, Sr.
With Michael Beasley and Martell Webster possibly leaving in the off-season via free agency and Wesley Johnson still struggling as a pro, the T-Wolves could use some depth at small forward.

23. Indiana- Mike Moser, SF, UNLV, 6-8, So.
The Pacers could use some depth at the three behind Danny Granger and Mike Moser is a skilled inside/outside threat who can attack the glass due to his athleticism and length.

25. Orlando- Kris Joseph, SF, Syracuse, 6-7, Sr.
This pick all depends on what happens with Dwight Howard this season so for now, I’ll give the Magic the best available player

27. Denver- Damien Lillard, PG, Weber State, 6-3, Jr.
Since the Nuggets have most of their core locked up for next season, Damien Lillard would provide insurance in case Andre Miller leaves via free agency. Lillard currently in college basketball’s leading scorer.

28. Atlanta- Will Barton, SG, Memphis, 6-6, So.
The Hawks only have six players under contract for next season so they are on the hunt for the best available player. I really like Will Barton’s potential and think he could develop into a poor man’s Jamal Crawford in the NBA.

29. Oklahoma City- Darius Miller, G/F, Kentucky, 6-8, Sr.
This is a pretty big reach, I know. However, OKC has most of their players locked up for next season so adding someone like Miller who has made the most out of being a versatile role player during his career at Kentucky would make a lot of sense. Either that, or drafting a foreign player and stashing him overseas.

30. Chicago- Evan Fournier, SG, France, 6-6, 1992
The Bulls have most of their roster under contract for next season so I think they go the foreign route rather than adding somebody who will ride the pine.

UPDATED: 1/26/12

31. Washington- Alex Young, G/F, IUPUI, 6-6, Sr.
Depth at the two would make sense since Nick Young becomes a free agent after this season.

32. Charlotte- Draymond Green, F, Michigan State, 6-6, Sr.
A young team like the Bobcats would benefit having somebody with Draymond Green’s versatility and basketball IQ on their roster.

Go here for more on Draymond Green

33. Cleveland (from NO)- Hollis Thompson, SF, Georgetown, 6-8, Jr.
Hollis Thompson is a terrific shooter with good size who could provide a scoring punch off the Cavs’ bench.

34. Detroit- Andrew Nicholson, PF, St. Bonaventure, 6-9, Sr.
Ben Wallace has to be retiring after this season, right? As a result, the Pistons could use some frontcourt depth.

Go here for more on Andrew Nicholson

35. Toronto- Darius Johnson-Odom, SG, Marquette, 6-3, Sr.
With Leandro Barbosa a free agent this summer, the Raptors could use an off-guard with Darius Johnson-Odom’s scoring ability.

36. Golden State- Tyshawn Taylor, PG, Kansas, 6-3, Sr.
The Warriors signed Nate Robinson as a short term, back-up point guard. Taylor could be the long-term answer behind Stephen Curry.

37. Denver (from GS)- Augusto Cesar Lima, PF, Brazil, 6-10, 1991
It would make sense for the Nuggets to go the foreign route and stash that player overseas for a year or two.

38. Sacramento- Kevin Jones, F, West Virginia, 6-8, Sr.
Jones is having a monster senior season for the Mountaineers and would be a solid value pick at this point of the draft.

39. Atlanta (from PHX)- JaMychal Green, PF, Alabama, 6-8, Sr.
Again, with only six players under contract for next season, Hawks need depth everywhere and go best available player.

40. Milwaukee- Robert Sacre, C, Gonzaga, 7-0, Sr.
The Bucks don’t have a true back-up big man for Andrew Bogut; a role that Sacre could maybe fill.

41. Cleveland- Henry Sims, C, Georgetown, 6-10, Sr.
The Cavs would be wise to use one of their picks in this draft in finding a true center.

42. Houston (from MIN)- Furkan Aldemir, PF, Turkey, 6-9, 1991
With four picks in this draft, the Rockets will take at least two foreign players who they can hope will develop overseas and contribute down the line.

43. Dallas (from LAL)- Scott Machado, PG, Iona, 6-1, Sr.
Jason Kidd is a free agent so Machado, one of the best pure distributors in college basketball, provides insurance at the point.

44. Detroit (from HOU)- Trevor Mbawke, PF, Minnesota, 6-8, Sr.
Mbakwe will apply for a medical redshirt and possibly return to Minnesota next season since he suffered a season-ending injury early this year. If not, he could add depth to a NBA team due to his energy and ability to rebound the basketball. (This pick stays with Houston if is between #31-#40.)

Go here for more on Trevor Mbawke

45. New York- Ricardo Ratliffe, PF, Missouri, 6-9, Sr.
Knicks need depth all across the board and Ratliffe could give them an energy player off the bench.

46. Boston- Orlando Johnson, SG, UC-Santa Barbara, 6-5, Sr.
C’s should look to add depth at the two in case free agent-to-be Ray Allen doesn’t return next season.

47. Memphis- Dee Bost, PG, Mississippi State, 6-2, Sr.
The Grizzlies should be looking to sure up their depth at the point behind Mike Conley next summer.

48. Washington (from DAL)- Herb Pope, PF, Seton Hall, 6-8, Sr.
Herb Pope could stick on a NBA roster due to his ability to crash the glass and hit mid-range shots.

49. Portland- Jordan Taylor, PG, Wisconsin, 6-1, Sr.
Taylor gives the Blazers an option at the point in case Raymond Felton leaves via free agency.

Go here for more on Jordan Taylor

50. San Antonio- Marcus Denmon, SG, Missouri, 6-3, Sr.
Marcus Denmon seems like the type of energy/role player who could find a home in San Antonio.

51. L.A. Clippers- Drew Gordon, PF, New Mexico, 6-9, Sr.
The UCLA transfer could possibly provide the Clips with a rebounding, role player to bring off the bench.

52. Utah- Tu Holloway, PG, Xavier, 6-0, Sr.
Jazz could use an up-grade at the point guard position.

53. Indiana- Reggie Johnson, C, Miami FL, 6-10, Jr.
Adding a big man behind Roy Hibbert, who is a restricted free agent this summer, seems like a wise move.

54. New Jersey (from MIA)- Renardo Sidney, PF, Mississippi State, 6-10, Jr.
When you are a team starving for talent, you can afford to take a risk on Renardo Sidney with your fourth pick of the draft.

55. Orlando- Jarrod Jones, PF, Ball State, 6-9, Sr.
Like I said earlier, since their future hinges on Dwight Howard’s status, anything is possible so I’ll give the Magic the best available player.

56. Philadelphia- Kim English, G/F, Missouri, 6-6, Sr.
English could find a home in Philly thanks to his shooting ability and versatility.

57. Denver- Chase Stanback, SF, UNLV, 6-8, Sr.
The former UCLA transfer has a smooth stroke on his outside shot that could earn him a roster spot.

58. Atlanta- Jae Crowder, F, Marquette, 6-6, Sr.
Depth, depth, and more depth is what the Hawks will be targeting in this draft.

59. Minnesota (from OKC)- Kent Bazemore, SG, Old Dominion, 6-5, Sr.
The Timberwolves need to add some depth and size on the wing.

60. L.A. Lakers (from CHI)- Eli Holman, PF, Detroit, 6-10, Sr.
Lakers need to find depth at just every position and Holman could find a spot on their roster due to his size.

The NBA Draft Stock Report checks in on which college basketball players have made a name for themselves in the past week; either helping or hurting their future draft position. With conference play starting, we get a better understanding of how NBA Draft prospects respond to playing better competition than some of the cupcake opponents they face in the non-conference.

Click here for The Sports Bank’s 2012 NBA Mock Draft.

Take a crazy early look at The Sports Bank’s 2013 NBA Mock Draft.

BUY:
Christian Watford, SF, Indiana, Jr.
While the college basketball world is glowing about Cody Zeller’s impact at Indiana, Watford has played just as big a role in their turnaround. At 6-9, he is a tough match-up due to inside/outside ability. Watford can get to the rim against bigger defenders but also post up smaller guys. His most impressive improvement has come beyond the arc where he his hitting 50% of his triple tries. I think he would for sure be a first round pick if he declares this Spring.

Tony Wroten, PG, Washington, Fr.
He is still turning the ball over way too often and struggles from the perimeter, but has all the intangibles to be a very good NBA point guard. His 6-5 height gives him the ability to back down defenders and also use his length to pester ball handlers defensively. What really stands out is his ability to slash to the bucket and finish around the rim. Wroten might actually be the best point guard prospect in the country.

Tony Mitchell, SF, North Texas, Fr.
The former Mizzou commit just became eligible after the first semester so it has taken him some time to get back in the swing of actual game action since he had not played in a game for a year and a half. That patience paid off when he posted a 34-point, 16-rebound performance against South Alabama. Mitchell is insanely athletic and at 6-8, has good size for a NBA small forward. If he can continue to improve as an outside shooter, he should be able to put up more dominating performances in the Sun Belt and the potential of being a lottery pick.

Fuquan Edwin, SF, Seton Hall, Soph.
Edwin’s emergence has been one of the key reasons for the Hall’s surprising start to the season. He has good size, strength, and athleticism for a wing player and is not afraid to get after it on the defensive end as he leads the nation in steals. Edwin has shown improvement with his outside shooting as is somebody to keep an eye on for the future.

SELL:
Myck Kabongo, PG, Texas, Fr.
In his last three games, Kabongo is averaging 5.7 points, 3.3 assists, and 4 turnovers per game. He is obviously a very talented player but it has taken him some time to adjust to running the point at the college level. I am not sure how much of his struggles are related to play on a young Longhorn team, but at this point, he might be better off returning for his sophomore season since I cannot see him being a lottery pick like most thought prior to the start of the season.

Joe Jackson, PG, Memphis, Soph.
There was talk of Jackson possibly transferring from Memphis, but the hometown kid has been unable to sustain any level of consistency in his sophomore season. Turnovers were a huge issue last year for Jackson and while he has cut down this season, Jackson has more turnovers than points or assists in his last three games. Until he improves his feel as a point guard and improves his decision-making, there should be no real threat of Jackson leaving Memphis early for the NBA.

The 2012 NBA Draft figures to consist of a deeper, more talented group of prospects that the 2011 class. Team needs have NOT been taken into consideration with this 2012 NBA mock draft and the order is still based off the 2011 NBA Draft. Click on the players’ name for a complete, in-depth scouting report.

(By the way, The Sports Bank was graded as the most accurate 2011 NBA Mock Draft on the web.)

UPDATED: 1/1/12

1. New Orleans (from LAC via MIN)- Anthony Davis, PF, Kentucky, 6-10, Fr.
The Wildcat freshman is an emerging talent with great length who has yet to even scratch the surface on how good he can become. He can play like a guard but needs to get much stronger.

2. Cleveland- Andre Drummond, C, UConn, 6-10, HS Sr.
He certainly looks the part with his size and physicality but Andre Drummond is still a work in progress in his understanding of the game and his offensive ability down low.

3. Toronto- Harrison Barnes, SF, North Carolina, 6-8, So.
Harrison Barnes has the ideal size for an NBA wing player and can score it in a variety of ways. He has the potential to be a special player if he develops that killer instinct.

4. Washington- Jared Sullinger, PF, Ohio State, 6-9, So.
A beast on the block, Jared Sullinger knows how to throw his big body around down low. He has also expanded his perimeter game which should help him at the next level.

5. Sacramento- Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF, Kentucky, 6-6, Fr.
A versatile, all-around talent, MKG can guard multiple positions on the floor and has the potential to be an elite defender. He is dangerous off the bounce but his perimeter game is still developing.

6. New Jersey- Thomas Robinson, PF, Kansas, 6-9, Jr.
As expected, Thomas Robinson has blown up at KU this season since he has become their go-to inside presence. He has an impressive combination of strength and athleticism that will serve him well at the next level.

7. Detroit- Perry Jones, F, Baylor, 6-11, So.
His length, versatility, and athleticism are an intriguing combination for NBA teams but Jones will have to become stronger and assertive before making an impact at the next level.

8. L.A. Clippers- Jeremy Lamb, SG, UConn, 6-5, So.
Jeremy Lamb really came on during UConn’s run to the national title and has carried that forward as UConn’s go-to guy this year. He has a silky smooth outside shot and is also very long and athletic.

9. Charlotte- Terrence Ross, SG, Washington, 6-6, So.
The smooth shooting Terrence Ross has had a breakout sophomore season for the Huskies. He has also shown the ability to effortlessly rise at the rim.

10. Milwaukee- Terrence Jones, F, Kentucky, 6-9, So.
Terrence Jones is an inside/outside threat who can play either forward position. His consistent effort is some cause for concern but there is no denying the kid’s talent.

11. Utah (from GS via NJ)- Bradley Beal, SG, Florida, 6-3, Fr.
A talented shooter with good strength to offset his lack of ideal size, Bradley Beal is also effective attacking the basket. He has been somewhat quiet playing alongside ball dominant guards at Florida but is a big-time talent.

12. Utah- John Henson, PF, North Carolina, 6-10, Jr.
John Henson is insanely long and has nice athleticism but his rail thin frame will be his biggest obstacle in transitioning to the next level.

13. Phoenix- Marquis Teague, PG, Kentucky, 6-2, Fr.
Marquis Teague has the size and quickness to be a starting point guard at the next level but he is still learning the position as his decision-making has been a problem thus far at UK.

14. Houston- Myck Kabongo, PG, Texas, 6-1, Fr.
Lightning quick with the basketball, Myck Kabongo is a pass first point guard with great handles.

15. Indiana- Kendall Marshall, PG, North Carolina, 6-2, So.
The lefty is an old school point guard who is an outstanding passer with tremendous court vision. He is not much a scorer and has been a liability on defense though.

16. Philadelphia- Doron Lamb, SG, Kentucky, 6-4, So.
Doron Lamb can stroke it from the outside but is also capable of handling the basketball and getting to the rim.

17. Houston (from NY)- Mike Moser, SF, UNLV, 6-8, So.
Mike Moser has been an impact transfer for the Rebels due to his athleticism and ability to crash the boards.

18. Atlanta- William Buford, SG, Ohio State, 6-5, Sr.
William Buford has always possessed the talent and so far, he has been a consistent scorer for the Buckeyes during his senior season which earn him a spot in the first round.

19. Memphis- Tyler Zeller, C, North Carolina, 7-0, Sr.
Due to his athleticism and fundamentals in the post, Tyler Zeller should get first round looks despite not being the most physical big man.

20. New Orleans- Arnett Moultrie, F, Mississippi State, 6-11, Jr.
The UTEP transfer is a physical presence in the post who crashes the glass and also has a decent mid-range jump shot.

21. Portland- Festus Ezeli, C, Vanderbilt, 6-11, Sr.
In a league where Kwame Brown signs a one-year, $7 million contract, there is no reason that Festus Ezeli cannot be a productive back-up big man due to his size and strength alone.

22. Denver- Kris Joseph, SF, Syracuse, 6-7, Sr.
An athletic wing player, Kris Joseph has improved his outside shooting which should earn him first round looks.

23. Orlando- Tomas Sotaransky, SG, Czech Republic, 6-6, 1991
The Czech is a talented all-around offensive player who can handle the rock, get to the basket, and also shoot it. Getting stronger will be a must before he contributes in the NBA.

24. Oklahoma City- John Jenkins, SG, Vanderbilt, 6-4, Jr.
A sharpshooter from distance, John Jenkins needs to improve the other areas of his game before being ready for the NBA.

25. Boston- Will Barton, SG, Memphis, 6-6, So.
Despite being as thick as a stick, Will Barton is an incredible scorer who is at his best when attacking the basket.

26. Dallas- Evan Fournier, SG, France, 6-6, 1992
A versatile scorer who can also handle the ball, Evan Fournier is a mature player who needs to improve his outside shot.

27. L.A. Lakers- Damien Lillard, PG, Weber State, Jr.
After missing most of last season with a foot injury, Lillard is the leading scorer in college basketball. He brings good size to the point guard position and also knows how to distribute the basketball.

28. Miami- Hollis Thompson, SF, Georgetown, 6-8, Jr.
After nearly making a huge mistake by declaring for the 2011 NBA Draft, Hollis Thompson has seen his stock rise this season particularly due to his ability to stroke it from deep.

29. San Antonio- Augusto Cesar Lima, PF, Brazil, 6-10, 1991
Augusto Cesar Lima is an athletic big who is still developing his all-around skill set but could be worth a late first round flyer for a team looking to stash a player overseas.

30. Chicago- Jeffery Taylor, SF, Vanderbilt, 6-7, Sr.
Jeffery Taylor has ideal size for the next level and his athleticism is off the charts, but his game hasn’t blossomed enough to secure him a first round pick.

The 2012 NBA Draft figures to consist of a deeper, more talented group of prospects that the 2011 class. Team needs have NOT been taken into consideration with this 2012 NBA mock draft and the order is still based on the 2011 NBA Draft. Click on the players’ name for a complete, in-depth scouting report.

(By the way, The Sports Bank was graded as the most accurate 2011 NBA Mock Draft on the web.)

UPDATED: 1/1/12

31. Minnesota- Lucas Noguiera, C, Brazil, 7-0, 1992
A raw talent, Lucas Noguiera will be drafted on size and potential alone.

32. Cleveland- JaMychal Green, PF, Alabama, 6-8, Sr.
An under-sized post player, JaMychal Green has an effective back to the basket game and crashes the glass.

33. Toronto- Jordan Taylor, PG, Wisconsin, 6-1, Sr.
Jordan Taylor has not shot the ball as well during his senior season, but still has one of the top assist-to-turnover ratios in the country.

34. Washington- Trevor Mbawke, PF, Minnesota, 6-8, Sr.
A season-ending injury hurts Trevor Mbakwe’s status, but his tremendous effort on the boards will garner him early second round looks.

35. Sacramento- Draymond Green, F, Michigan State, 6-6, Sr.
The true team player, Draymond Green has the intangibles and effort to be a role player at the next level.

36. New Jersey- Dee Bost, PG, Mississippi State, 6-2, Sr.
Dee Bost is a quick point guard who has become a better floor leader during his senior season.

37. Detroit- Andrew Nicholson, PF, St. Bonaventure, 6-9, Sr.
Andrew Nicholson has the look but needs to improve several areas of his game.

38. L.A. Clippers- Robert Sacre, C, Gonzaga, 7-0, Sr.
He has solid skill and athleticism for a true seven-footer and could be a serviceable back-up at the next level.

39. Charlotte- Jarrod Jones, PF, Ball State, 6-9, Sr.
The Cardinal senior has a nice inside/outside game that should give him a chance to make it in the league.

40. Milwaukee- Darius Miller, G/F, Kentucky, 6-8, Sr.
Versatility is the biggest asset for Darius Miller who can play and defend multiple positions, and also understands how be a role player.

41. Golden State- Joffrey Lauvergne, PF, France, 6-10, 1991
A combo forward with a nice inside/outside game, Joffrey Lauvergne will be a player who gets stashed overseas for a couple of years.

42. Indiana- Orlando Johnson, SG, UC-Santa Barbara, 6-5, Sr.
The Gaucho senior is a talented all-around scorer who has flown under the radar a bit at UC-Santa Barbara.

43. Utah- Kevin Jones, F, West Virginia, 6-8, Sr.
Kevin Jones is having a terrific senior season due to an effective inside/outside game but he is under-sized to be a power forward and not quick enough to be a small forward in the NBA.

44. Phoenix- Drew Gordon, PF, New Mexico, 6-9, Sr.
The former UCLA transfer makes his presence felt on the glass and could play that role off some team’s bench in the NBA.

45. Philadelphia- Scott Machado, PG, Iona, 6-1, Sr.
One of the best pure distributor’s in college basketball, Scott Machado has really made a name for himself so far during his senior season.

46. New York- Alex Young, G/F, IUPUI, 6-6, Sr.
A talented wing scorer, Alex Young doesn’t get the pub he should similar to the last IUPUI player to be drafted, George Hill.

47. Houston- Tu Holloway, PG, Xavier, 6-0, Sr.
The player formerly known as Terrell does a little bit of everything from the point guard position and could be a solid back-up at the next level.

48. Atlanta- Leon Radosevic, PF, Croatia, 6-10, 1990
Not blessed with the best athleticism or skill, Leon Radosevic plays with great effort and basketball IQ.

49. Memphis- Renardo Sidney, PF, Mississippi State, 6-10, Jr.
The Bulldog comes with a ton of baggage but is skilled for his size meaning some team will take a second round flyer on him.

50. New Orleans- Darius Johnson-Odom, SG, Marquette, 6-3, Sr.
DJO can stroke it from deep but also has explosive athleticism. His lack of ideal size is holding him back.

51. Portland- Reggie Johnson, C, Miami FL, 6-10, Jr.
Reggie Johnson is a beast down low but needs to get in better shape before he is ready to be a NBA player.

52. Denver- Herb Pope, PF, Seton Hall, 6-8, Sr.
Herb Pope has overcome health issues to put together a solid start to his senior season. He is a bit under-sized but does have good range on his jumper.

53. Orlando- Tyshawn Taylor, PG, Kansas, 6-3, Sr.
An athletic point guard, Tyshawn Taylor has underachieved the past couple seasons at KU.

54. Oklahoma City- Eli Holman, PF, Detroit, 6-10, Sr.
Eli Holman has the size and physicality to draw to possibly stick on an NBA roster.

55. Boston- Marcus Denmon, SG, Missouri, 6-3, Sr.
A talented scorer who is dynamic in the open court, Marcus Denmon’s lack of size could hold him back at the next level.

56. Dallas- Chase Stanback, SF, UNLV, 6-8, Sr.
The former UCLA transfer has a smooth stroke on his outside shot.

57. L.A. Lakers- Henry Sims, C, Georgetown, 6-10, Sr.
In a league starved for big men, Henry Sims could sneak into the second round as he is finally having a breakout season for the Hoyas.

58. Miami- Kent Bazemore, SG, Old Dominion, 6-5, Sr.
The Monarch senior could fit his niche in the NBA as a defensive specialist. He is also effective off the bounce.

59. San Antonio- Casper Ware, PG, Long Beach State, 5-10, Sr.
Casper Ware really made a real name for himself by winning MVP honors in the Drew Summer League which featured several NBA players and he has followed that up with a solid senior season thus far.

60. Chicago- Terrence Henry, PF, Mississippi, 6-10, Sr.
The Rebel senior has good size and athleticism but does not dominate the game the way a player with his ability should.

The long-awaited 2011-2012 NBA season tips off today… Merry Christmas! Five games are on the schedule but before you plop yourself in front of the TV, check out my Eastern Conference predictions.

1. Chicago Bulls
Don’t forget that the Bulls finished with the best record in the NBA last season even though they were without Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah for extended periods of time. The Rip Hamilton acquisition will be a nice addition for a team that struggled scoring from the wing last season. Oh, and they also have the reigning MVP of the league in Derrick Rose who I feel like nobody is talking about this pre-season.

2. Miami Heat
Injuries are already affecting the depth of this team as Mike Miller is going to miss a significant amount of time while newly signed Shane Battier has been banged up in the pre-season. It frightens me that Eddy Curry might actually play a significant role for the Heat this season but as long as they have LeBron, Wade, and Bosh (well actually just LeBron and Wade), they will finish in the top three in the East and be a threat to win the title.

3. New York Knicks
It will be interesting to see this team will handle the heightened expectations this season. The addition of Tyson Chandler gives the Knicks one of the best frontcourts in the NBA but there are questions in the backcourt where New York will need Baron Davis to play a significant role once he gets healthy. (It can’t be a positive thing when Baron Davis is the x-factor on your team, right?) Their bench is also a huge question mark with the likes of Mike Bibby, rookie Iman Shumpert, and Jared Jefferies expected to be key contributors.

4. Indiana Pacers
Here’s a good formula on how to build an up-and-coming team: Surround your star player (Danny Granger) with smart draft picks or young guys you’ve acquired at a cheap price (Roy Hibbert, Tyler Hansbrough, Paul George, Darren Collison, George Hill), add a key free agent who you didn’t overpay for (David West at two-years, $20 million), and keep cap flexibility for future (about $20 million under the cap next summer.) Just like that, the Pacers are definitely a team to watch out for in the future and can certainly make some noise this season.

5. Atlanta Hawks
Since they lost Jamal Crawford and ultimately replaced him with Tracy McGrady, the Hawks shouldn’t be much better than the 44 wins they posted in 2011-2012 since their depth is worse this year. The point guard duo of Kirk Hinrich and Jeff Teague is cause for concern as well. I think Josh Smith could be a trade candidate during the season as the Hawks try to add a point guard or big man so Al Horford can move to the power forward position.

6. Orlando Magic
Assuming Dwight Howard is around all season and his situation doesn’t cause a major distraction, the Magic should at least hover around the 40-win mark and finish no lower than sixth in the East. Their roster isn’t a whole lot different from what they had at the end of last season; Jason Richardson was re-signed, Glen Davis replaces Brandon Bass, and Gilbert Arenas was amnestied. If Howard gets dealt though, this prediction likely takes a major dip depending on what Orlando receives in return.

7. Boston Celtics
After their big four of Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, the C’s will be relying on guys like Jermaine O’Neal, Brandon Bass, Avery Bradley, Sasha Pavlovic, JaJuan Johnson, Marquis Daniels, Keyon Dooling, Mikael Pietrus, and Chris Wilcox to play key roles. Outside of Bass, none of those players should really be rotation guys on a championship caliber team. A shortened regular season will help them but how will this veteran team handle stretches where they have to play five games in a week?

8. Phildealphia 76ers
The Sixers pretty much return their entire roster from last season except for the addition of first round pick Nikola Vucevic. They were the 7 seed in the East last season with a .500 record and unless Evan Turner really makes a jump in his second season, you can expect a similar outcome for Philly.

9. Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks are coming off an injury-riddled 2010-2011 season in which they missed out on the post-season. If Milwuakee stays healthy and new acquisition Stephen Jackson is happy and motivated, the Bucks should compete for a playoff spot. They also added a couple of nice veterans like Mike Dunleavy, Shaun Livingston, and Beno Udrih who will help improve the depth of their team. Health though will be the key.

10. Detroit Pistons
The Pistons finished 30-52 last season and didn’t really do anything to improve their roster for this season. With this current core, I feel like Detroit will be lucky to be a mediocre franchise for the next couple years which is why I was not a huge fan of them spending $70 million dollars to keep Rodney Stuckey, Tayshaun Prince, and Jonas Jerebko. At least, Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva aren’t making almost forty million dollars the next two seasons. (Shoot.)

11. Washington Wizards
It still baffles me that the Wizards are okay paying Rashard Lewis $46 million the next two years and that he wasn’t amnestied. John Wall seems like a breakout season candidate and there are some nice young pieces around him (JaVale McGee, Andray Blatche, Jordan Crawford, Nick Young, and rookies Jan Vesely and Chris Singleton.) I wouldn’t be shocked if this team opens some eyes but a lot of things will have to come together as their re-building process reaches its second year.

12. New Jersey Nets
I will give the Nets credit for learning from their mistakes last season when they blew their cap space on mediocre talent. New Jersey failed to make a splash this off-season but at least made wise decisions in free agency to maintain their cap flexibility and keep the possibility of pairing Deron Williams with a big time talent (aka Dwight Howard.) Until then, New Jersey will struggle this season especially with Brook Lopez expected to miss the first six-eight weeks of the season.

13. Toronto Raptors
This roster is just a bunch of blah on top of blah. Andrea Bargnani and DeMar DeRozan are their best two players. Aaron Gray might end up being the starting center. I’d rather watch Jurassic Park 3 than a Raptors game.

14. Cleveland Cavaliers
Who would have known that acquiring Baron Davis would have been the best thing to happen to this franchise since they won a championship with LeBron. (What? They never did that… Oops.) The Cavs got the first overall pick in the Davis deal and on top of that got to amnesty Davis this off-season. Who says Cleveland is cursed? For now though the Cavs are sort of caught in between re-building mode and still waiting to shed a couple of terrible contracts (I’m looking at you Antawn Jamison.) I am excited to see Kyrie Irving play more than 11 games in a season though.

15. Charlotte Bobcats
Boris Diaw is their starting center. Corey Maggette is their top scorer. The defense rests, your honor. The only thing semi-intriguing about this team is seeing how Kemba Walker performs in his rookie campaign.

It was a shortened 2011 NBA off-season and certainly lacked the excitement and drama of the summer of 2010. Some teams failed to make the needed moves to improve their roster and actually took a step back while other teams made drastic improvements. Here my NBA off-season losers which include the Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets, and Boston Celtics.

Los Angeles Lakers
Not only did their proposed deal for Chris Paul get vetoed by the league (or whatever David Stern wants to call it), the Lakers then panicked when Lamar Odom became unhappy and pretty much gave him away to the defending champion Mavericks for nothing. If you are going to give away one of your best players, at least trade him to a crappy team or send him to the Eastern Conference, not to one of your biggest challengers for in West. So now the Lakers will rely on free agent additions Josh McRoberts, Troy Murphy, and Jason Kapono to possibly play significant roles off the bench this season. This team definitely took a step back this off-season.

New Jersey Nets
With all of their cap space, the Nets struck out on their attempt to land one of the top free agents and were also unable to acquire Dwight Howard via trade. So their biggest off-season acquisitions… DeShawn Stevenson, Shawne Williams, and Shelden Williams. Ish. I will give them credit for learning from their mistakes of last off-season when they gave multi-year deals to guys like Johan Petro, Jordan Farmar, and Travis Outlaw (who coincidentally enough was amnestied), and instead signing guys like Williams and Kris Humphries to short deals so that they still have a good amount of cap space next off-season in hopes of re-signing Deron Williams and bringing in a free agent like Howard. That is, if they don’t make a trade for Howard during the season.

Kris Humphries
First the disaster relationship/wedding/divorce/TV show with Kim Kardashian, then he is unable to find a team willing to give him a long-term deal so he is forced to ink a one-year contract with the Nets. I think his rep may have taken a worse hit than LeBron’s did last off-season with that whole “Decision” debacle.

Boston Celtics
While some of the top teams in the East added key role players, the Celtics’ depth actually got worse this off-season. The situation with Jeff Green needing open heart surgery is simply unfortunate, but now Boston has a bench consisting of guys like Brandon Bass, Chris Wilcox, Avery Bradley, Marquis Daniels, Sasha Pavlovic, and Keyon Dooling. A shortened regular season will help their aging stars but the Celtics will have a difficult time competing with teams like the Bulls, Heat, and Knicks.

Washington Wizards
They make this list simply because they did not amnesty Rashard Lewis. Really? You are okay with paying Lewis almost $46 million the next two seasons rather than freeing yourselves of his contract? I don’t get that decision. At. All.
