2014 Big East Tournament Preview and Predictions

big east tournament

The Big East Tournament has produced some of the most memorable games in recent college basketball history. With a new-look conference though, the 2014 Big East Tournament lacks the headliners of year’s past. Only Villanova and Creighton are NCAA Tournament locks so there are numerous teams desperate for a win in hopes of padding their resume and improving their chances of getting into the tourney. Here is a preview and my predictions for the 2014 Big East Tournament. All games will air on Fox Sports 1.

Marquette A.D. progressively sides with Ed O’Bannon in lawsuit

marquette cheerleaders

Marquette University Athletic Director Larry Williams told the Associated Press that he sided with former Nebraska Cornhuskers QB Sam Keller and ex UCLA Bruins star Ed O’Bannon.

“I do not think the NCAA should be trading on the image or likeness of any players,” he said. “If we’re requiring amateurism on one side, we should not be individually commercializing their image and likeness.”

Ring out ahoya for MU! Kudos to the Marquette A.D. for being what will be the right side of history.

Marquette Golden Eagles at Wisconsin Badgers: brutally honest preview

marquette wisconsin basketball

Marquette vs. Wisconsin is one of the best non-conference rivalries in all of college basketball.  For the 119th time in program history, the Badgers and Golden Eagles will square off for in-state bragging rights.  Marquette has struggled a bit out of the gates this season with a 5-3 record but has won the past two meetings against Wisconsin.  Meanwhile, the 9-0 Badgers have one of the most impressive early season resumes having already beat St. John’s, Florida, St. LouisWest Virginia, and Virginia.

The Sports Bank’s resident Marquette expert David Kay and Wisconsin guru Nick Grays break down Saturday’s battle at the Kohl Center.

#13 Marquette Golden Eagles: College Basketball 111 in 111

marquette golden eagles

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s fourth annual college basketball season preview series where we break 111 teams in the 111 days leading up to the opening tip-off of the 2013-2014 season.  We will rank the 84 power conference teams (including the new Big East and American Athletic Conferences) and top 27 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, transfers, incoming freshmen, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

WARNING: As a Marquette alum and obsessive Golden Eagle basketball fan, this is going to take my lengthy, in-depth, nerdy previews to a whole new level.  If I were you, I would clear out ten minutes of your schedule before beginning to read this.

Coming off their third straight trip to the Sweet 16 and first Elite 8 appearance since 2003, the Marquette Golden Eagles have emerged as a consistent national threat.  MU was co-Big East Champs a year ago and Buzz Williams will rely on his loaded frontcourt to help the Golden Eagles bring home another title in their new look conference.

2013 Big East basketball season preview (FS1, Madness edition)

marquette cheerleaders

The Big East Basketball conference is not what it once was. But it is college basketball only now, no college football. So it is unique and interesting in that sense. Big East basketball features one team ranked in the coaches poll, #17 Marquette. Georgetown and Creighton will be competitive though.

Then you have Coach Lav and St. John’s, who could be a factor. Villanova will be a tough out in the league. The you have a drop off to Providence, Xavier, Butler, Seton Hall and DePaul. That’s how our expert David Kmiecik has the Big East basketball hierarchy shaping up.

Fox Sports 1 signed a big deal to acquire the new television rights to the new league. And last night they held a two hour special launching the 2013-14 season of Big East basketball. Which live look-ins from all ten campuses.

Dwyane Wade ex-wife suing for $1 Million+

dwyane-wade

The former spouse of Miami Heat and Marquette star Dwyane Wade claims she’s owed over $1 million. Her lawsuit, filed in Cook County, IL last week, alleges that D. Wade has denied her the money she’s entitled to from his endorsement deals.

Siohvaughn Wade, not known for being the most stable sort, is suing all of the following:

Dwyane Wade, his attorney, his financial adviser and some companies that he has endorsement deals with. Dwayne Wade just won his second consecutive, and third overall NBA title with the Heat. And his situation with the ex reminds us of how Biggee’s words are timeless: “the more money you come across the more problems you see.” Siohvaughn alleges conspiracy on D. Wade’s part to deny her the money. Perhaps she’s a part of the NBA fixes games for Lebron James conspiracy crowd too.
