Bastian Schweinsteiger has a reward awaiting him now that Manchester United has won the Europa League tournament this season.

After the Chicago Fire resoundingly defeated the current Major League Soccer defending champion Seattle Sounders, the German icon was asked if he’s been following United’s progression through to the Europa League final in Stockholm. The midfielder who moved from Manchester United to Chicago Fire this past March was also quizzed on the medal that he’ll receive now that United has defeated Ajax 2-0 and claimed the Europa tournament title.

Ibrahimovic Gets Picture Taken with “Zlatan Stay and You Can Shag My Wife” Sign

What a bummer it was that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was injured and couldn’t play in his “homecoming match” tonight.

At least the Swedish striker still had a chance to celebrate the glory of winning a trophy in his homeland. Manchester United claimed a 2-0 victory over Ajax, obtaining their first ever Europa League/UEFA Cup title, and a spot in next year’s UEFA Champions League. Of all the fun tweets we saw celebrating the glorious triumph, these photos/videos of Zlatan Ibrahimovic stood out from the heard.

Man United Win First Europa League Title in History: Some of the Best Tweets

Manchester United came, saw and conquered Stockholm in the Europa League Final tonight, finally ending a very long season that saw them alive in four different competitions most of the season, and in three for an overwhelming majority of it.

After finishing sixth in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho’s side would be back in this very same competition next season unless they lifted the trophy. Goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan helped to make that happen!

Jose Mourinho has insisted all along it was not a risk to concede the Premier League top four finish as a route back into UEFA Champions League. His decision to put all the potential UCL eggs in the Europa tournament basket definitely seems like the right one, but he needs to close the deal in order to verify this.

Jose Mourinho Could Play Nine United U23s in Season Finale at Crystal Palace

At the beginning of the month, Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho indicated that before the season is through he might have to play some of the U23s due to the injury crisis his club his currently facing.

The Red Devils, alive in four different competitions most of the season, and in three for much of it, are experiencing first hand the price to be paid for playing over 60 matches.

Angel Gomes, 16 and MUFC Young Player of the Year, Named to Senior Team

At age 16, Angel Gomes was named Manchester United’s Young Player of the Year last night to become the youngest award winner. He’s been a very highly rated prospect along the way as he’s progressed through the ranks of the club.

He further impressed the club this season, to the point that he was named to the senior team for the regular season finale at Crystal Palace.

Predicted Manchester United Starting 11 vs Crystal Palace (Season Finale)

Manchester United face Crystal Palace on “Championship Sunday” or “Survival Sunday” in a rematch of the FA Cup final last May. United will now head to London, to take on the only team in the Premier League with cheerleaders in match where they will rest most of their starters and key reserves.

United Manager Jose Mourinho will essentially treat this like a friendly, as he’ll play what could be as many as nine U23s in this one. The United boss has been open about playing the kids since the beginning of the month.

Jose Mourinho credits referee Michael Oliver for saving Manchester United’s season due to his red carding Ander Herrera in the FA Cup quarterfinal loss at Chelsea.

Mourinho sees the Herrera send-off as critical to United’s elimination from the FA Cup and thus reduced the high workload his team had to put in this season.
