Manchester United and their striker Romelu Lukaku has made it clear that he wants a controversial chant about him to cease. The song, intended to praise him by referring to the size of his penis, has been condemned by both Kick It Out, a progressive football activist group, and Manchester United football club.

Today, following MUFC’s 1-0 win at Southampton, a match in which Lukaku himself scored the only goal, United said they are going to crack down on those who persist in singing the offensive song.

Jose Mourinho Sent Off For Touchline Infraction (Photos)

Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho got sent off today in the final seconds of injury time in the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over Southampton. The rule he broke was stepping outside his allotted zone on the touchline. He went a yard or so outside the technical area, and because it happened in the closing moments, and obviously therefore not covered very well on television broadcasts, many wondered what had just happened.

Romelu Lukaku Continues Hot Start, Shows Passion in United Win

Romelu Lukaku, the subject of a very controversial chant that made global football headlines this week, is continuing his elite play on the pitch. Today he scored his eighth goal in eight games, and the 20′ strike ended up being the only scoring  as Manchester United went on to win 1-0 at Southampton.

The extremely hot start by the big Belgian puts him in elite company at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba May Need Surgery, MUFC to Make Decision Next Week


The health status of Paul Pogba, who reigned as the world’s most expensive player from last summer until the Neymar deal was struck this past summer, is very much in question. The Manchester United midfielder has been out of action since injuring his hamstring in United’s UEFA Champions League group stage opener 11 days ago.

There have been numerous, often conflicting reports about how the expected length of his absence, with United Manager Jose Mourinho saying last weekend that the Frenchman could be out “12 days or 12 weeks” and no one really knows.

Manchester United Fourth This Week in Global Power Rankings


One always looks forward to ESPN FC and Analyst Shaka Hislop releasing the weekly power rankings of all the teams in Europe (which is a de facto power rankings for every team in the world, since European footy is the strongest of all). It’s an ambitious project to do a European power rankings, so kudos to Hislop for being up to the challenge.

The two Manchester clubs switched places this week, as City is ahead of United in the table, but only because of alphabetical order. Both sides have taken 13 points from the first five matches, and put up a 16-2 goal differential.

Jose Mourinho Gives Paul Pogba Injury Update in News Conference


Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is obviously out for the Southampton clash tomorrow, and his long term status remains up in the air. United Manager Jose Mourinho gave his weekly news conference a couple hours ago (video here), but he did not offer any time table on Pogba’s comeback from a hamstring injury.

“I have no idea,” Mourinho responded to a query on the topic.

Anthony Martial Conveying New Happiness Says Jose Mourinho


You can just call Manchester United forward Anthony Martial Pharrell Williams, because his actions and body language evoke the lyrics of the musician’s signature song- “cuz I’m happy! clap along, if you feel like a room without a roof.”

United Manager Jose Mourinho met the media a few minutes ago (video available at this link), and one of the questions he received pertained to Anthony Martial, who is coming off a Man of the Match performance versus Burton Albion in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho Press Conference Pre Southampton Match (Video)

Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho met the media a few minutes hours ago to preview his side’s Premier League group fixture against Southampton FC. Clearly, the highlight/most noteworthy portion of the session comes at the 2:47-:4:40 mark in the clip.

A reporter asks Mourinho about the controversial chant some United supporters have been singing for Romelu Lukaku. The song, which references the size of Lukaku’s penis, has been condemned as racist by Kick It Out. MUFC itself have officially vowed to take action against it.

Man United vs Southampton Injury Report: Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Rojo, Van Dijk

Southampton Manager Mauricio Pellegrino is considering handing Virgil van Dijk his first start of the season Saturday versus Manchester United.

The Saints boss told reporters: “We’ll decide [on Friday] but every single week, Virgil is important because he is getting better.”

The want-away defender has been ruled out since January due to a severe ankle injury but did play the final three minutes against Crystal Palace last week.

Manchester United Starting XI Prediction vs Southampton


Manchester United head to Southampton for a Premier League clash at St. Mary’s this weekend. For United, it begins a run where six of the next seven, across all competitions, will be away from home. The Red Devils come in tied with Manchester City for the top of the table, while Saints head into this with eight points on the season, putting them mid-table.

They are technically listed ninth, but are actually tied with sixth other teams for the fourth most points accumulated in the young season.
