Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League qualification prospects for next season are in serious question. However, Blues boss Antonio Conte doesn’t believe that missing out on Europe will hurt his side in the upcoming summer transfer window. With Chelsea now eliminated from the tournament, and four points adrift of the top four as the season heads into its final stretch, the odds that the current Premier League champions will not be a part of the UCL next year keep increasing.

Conte thinks that retention and recruitment of top tier talented players won’t be a problem, even in it spite of this.

Antonio Conte Claims Result at Barcelona was “Unfair”

antonio conte

Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte believes that his side’s 3-0 loss at Barcelona doesn’t accurately reflect the form of his side. The Blues had no answer for Barca’s Lionel Messi, who’s heroics inspired high praise from Chelsea players Marcos Alonso and Thibaut Courtois.

Conte believes the Blues have been very unfortunate lately, and that his side has shown a lot of development this season; yes in spite of the results. Chelsea have only won two of their last six Premier League games, and just one across all five competitions.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and midfielder Marcos Alonso know very well why their opponents are moving on to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, and their side is eliminated. They don’t have the man who rivals Cristiano Ronaldo for best player in the entire world.

Barcelona has Lionel Messi, Chelsea does not. Entering this Champions League tie, Messi had never scored against Chelsea in eight games and that made for his worst individual record against any one team. However, by the time this tie was over, he had three scoring strikes in two matches.

Chelsea Starting XI Prediction vs Barcelona (Champions League)

chelsea fc

Chelsea played one of their best games of the season in their 1-1 draw in the first leg of this Champions League round of 16 tie with Barcelona. It’s really unfortunate that they didn’t win the home leg, because they certainly were deserving. Now the Blues head to the Camp Nou with Barca having a slight advantage over them.

Given that advancing to the next round is determined by scoring on aggregate, with away goals the tie-breaker, the Catalan club head into Wednesday night’s meeting with less pressure. Lionel Messi scored the first goal of his career against Chelsea in the first meeting, and that scoring strike looms large now.

Antonio Conte Hits Back at Critics of his Ultra-Defensive Game Plan

antonio conte

Chelsea could not muster even a single shot on target in their 2-1 loss at Manchester City yesterday as Blues boss Antonio Conte employed an extremely defensive and very pragmatic game plan. Chelsea, who accumulated just 29% possession, registered only three shots in total, compared to City’s 13 (three on target).

After the game, Chelsea star Eden Hazard said that he felt like he ran around, but didn’t play a game of football. He also added that he felt he could have played for three more hours and never even touch the ball. In his postgame news conference, Conte adamantly defended the non-aggressive and less than entertaining tactics that he chose to utilize. He also said those slamming his strategy were making stupid comments.

Eden Hazard Complains About Lack of Involvement versus Man City

Forward Eden Hazard is as important to Chelsea as any footballer is to any team anywhere in the world. Due to the Blues’ issues at centre-forward, manager Antonio Conte has been playing Hazard out of his natural position on the wing, and instead using him as a false nine.

Eden Hazard has been vocal about the fact that he is being played out of position in the past (of course while also maintaining that he is very willing to do so), but this weekend, after a 1-0 loss at Manchester City, the 27-year-old expressed his discontent with his role in a new manner.
