Antonio Conte Downplays Chelsea Interest in Alexis Sanchez

antonio conte

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, speaking ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup third-round replay at home versus Norwich City, played down his club’s interest in Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez. Yesterday brought reports of Manchester City ending their interest in Sanchez, and believing that Chelsea had reached out to the player’s agent, Fernando Felicevich, hoping to hijack Manchester United’s bid to acquire the Chilean.

Given the recent row between Conte and United manager Jose Mourinho, any narrative of conflict between the two clubs is certainly very believable at this point.

mino-raiola

Mino Raiola, agent of Manchester United winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan, spoke out about the future of his client, and his impact on the Alexis Sanchez transfer situation. While Mkhitaryan has had an underwhelming career at United, he still holds the key to getting the Sanchez deal done.

Or at least that’s what Mino Raiola (who also represents United players Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba) claims.

Mourinho Believes Mkhitaryan Gives Him Advantage in Sanchez Derby

henrikh-mkhitaryan

Prior to Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Stoke City tonight, manager Jose Mourinho gave an update on the status of Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Mourinho explained that he had to drop the Armenian because his player’s mind wasn’t as focused on the match, and instead fixated on his future, which could be with another club.

That club is Arsenal of course, with Mkhitaryan consistently being linked in a deal for Alexis Sanchez. After the match, Mourinho implied that he believes the attacking player could be a key piece in getting a transfer deal done. The United boss also maintains that Mkhitaryan gives him an advantage over other clubs in the race to acquire Sanchez, although Mourinho did not say Chelsea specifically.

Thibaut Courtois Hits Out at Stamford Bridge Boo Birds

thibaut courtois

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is the latest star athlete to opine on the most timeless sports debate of all- should you, as a fan ever boo your own team? Players obviously don’t like it when they get booed by their own home fans, but as a ticket holder you do have the right to engage this kind of behavior.

As long as it complies to the letter of the law and the protocol of the venue, you are free to do whatever you like as a ticket holder. However, it doesn’t help your team, Courtois argues.

Antonio Conte Says Fatigue, not Tactics Behind Chelsea Struggles

Perhaps his long, drawn out feud with Jose Mourinho is getting to Antonio Conte. Maybe beefing with the Manchester United manager is draining the Blues boss. Perhaps his Chelsea side still hasn’t recovered from the festive period workload and hasn’t had  sufficient rest time.

They’re certainly not themselves right now as they drew 0-0 with Leicester City today, making it three consecutive goalless draws now for Chelsea. They have now gone 276 minutes without scoring, and Antonio Conte has come under fire for playing a more ultra-conservative 3-5-2 formation lately, instead of the 3-4-3 that enabled the Blues to run away with the Premier League title last season.

Jose Mourinho May Have Ended the Beef with Antonio Conte

jose mourinho antonio conte

At long last, the Jose Mourinho vs. Antonio Conte beef may have finally ended.

Maybe.

It’s a row comprised of two very powerful men with extremely strong personalities and gargantuan sized egos. The two Premier League managers are both men who want to get the last word in. Additionally, neither the Manchester United manager, nor the Chelsea boss are individuals who are very likely to apologize, but this feud has to end sometime.

Antonio Conte Admits Chelsea FC Future is Uncertain

antonio conte

Despite the fact that he’s only eight months removed from winning the Premier League title, Chelsea FC Manager Antonio Conte still has an uncertain future at his current club. Conte has guided the Blues to the knockout round of the UEFA Champions League, and his team remains alive in the race for top four in league play. Chelsea can still win the FA Cup and EFL Cup tournaments as well.

Yet his long-term status at Stamford Bridge remains very much in doubt. The Italian had his current deal, which expires in June 2019, recently restructured, but not extended. Reports in Italy this season have linked him with a return home in the not too distant future.

Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte Feud Blasted by Fabio Capello

jose mourinho antonio conte

The Jose Mourinho versus Antonio Conte feud has reached Notorious B.I.G. versus Tupac Shakur level tension. It’s the Premier League manager version of the east coast versus west coast hip-hop beef from the 1990s. In his latest “diss track” on Tuesday, Conte refused to escalate the row any further, but he also refrained from trying to make peace, and he certainly did not apologize for what has been said.

Their feud has been widely criticized by the international football community, and deemed bad for the game. While some believe the Chelsea boss is winning the war of words, others believe the United manager has gotten the upper hand so far. Most just believe that both men are losers in this situation.

Arsene Wenger Still Mad About Eden Hazard Penalty Award

eden hazard

It’s been a week since their meeting, but the decision to award Chelsea star Eden Hazard a penalty still irks Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. The two London sides and bitter rivals battled to an extremely exciting 2-2 draw last Wednesday, with Hazard scoring off a penalty kick conversion.

The Belgian was awarded the penalty after a challenge from the Gunners’ Hector Bellerin, but Wenger thought then, and he still believes now that Hazard should have been booked for diving. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte called the 67-year-old Gunners boss an “old coach” with a habit of questioning referees.

Antonio Conte Says He Won’t Forget War of Words with Jose Mourinho

jose mourinho antonio conte

Today brought another Antonio Conte media opportunity and with it a chance for the Chelsea manager to apologize for his war of words with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, and perhaps even bury the hatchet.

Of course, it was also an opportunity for Conte to further escalate the beef; one in which both men seem passionately intent on getting the last word in on the other. The Blues boss took neither path, and instead took a different route. The Italian held status quo on what he said, and expressed no regret.
