Here is an updated on my preseason Top 25 for the 2012-2013 college basketball. With transfers, the decisions of some previously undeclared top high school recruits, and players declaring their intentions to return to school or leave for the NBA Draft, there has been a lot of movement since I released my original rankings the day after the National Championship game. (Click here for a list of NBA Draft early entries.) Leave a comment below if you think a team is too high, too low, not getting enough respect, or if you notice an error in a projected roster. Bracketology: Projecting the 2013 NCAA Tournament field
If you are like me and already have a post-college basketball NCAA Tournament depression; fear not. The Sports Bank has already released our preseason Top 25 for the 2012-2013 season which you can check out by clicking here. Now it is time for an insanely early Bracketology, projecting what the 2013 NCAA Tournament field might look like.
Baylor basketball rocking HIDEOUS neon jerseys during post-season
It needs to stop. It just needs to stop. Oregon football started the trend of wearing ridiculous jerseys and Baylor basketball will be continuing that fad for the Big 12 Tournament and NCAA Tournament as Adidas released pictures of what the new uniforms will look like (aka Nike wannabes.) Louisville and Cincinnati will also wear special post-season jerseys but theirs aren’t nearly as horrendous as Baylor’s. Check them out: [Read more...]
Top Illini head coaching candidates: non Shaka Smart variety
Well, I didn’t see that one coming. Shaka Smart had an offer of $2.5 million plus, doubling his salary, and a chance at a top 20 national job in what was the nation’s best conference this year. And he had a chance to step up from mid-major to high-major in the Big Ten. I’ve been to Richmond, Virginia a couple times so I can tell you- this denial was shocking.
The only way the decision to stay at VCU could be interpreted as a smart one is if Smart wants to be a Ram for life (and life means a decade or so) like Brad Stevens at Butler, or he’s holding out for the UConn and UCLA jobs; and now only one of those jobs looks to be open next year. high percentage of Illini nation is hard right-wing politically. They won’t like a coach spurning them to stay at Virginia Commonwealth. “Sounds like a socialist commune!” they’ll say.
Illinois Athletic Director Mike Thomas had a plan: option 1 was Shaka Smart, option 2-11 was Smart.
Now it’s time to move on to option 12.
Buckeyes, Musketeers, Bearcats, Bobcats: Ohio basketball bonanza
When it comes to college basketball, the state of Ohio is the anti-Illinois. There may be no Midwest swing in the region’s most populous state this year (the Land of Lincoln) but there’s plenty in the Buckeye state.
The birthplace of aviation has seen their teams soar in the NCAA Tournament this year, as they went 8-0 on the first weekend. They comprise one fourth of the sweet sixteen: the Ohio Bobcats, Cincinnati Bearcats, Xavier Musketeers and Ohio State Buckeyes.
NCAA Tournament: East Regional Breakdown
Warning: I will not be responsible if you copy these brackets and are out of your NCAA Tournament pool by Sunday. However, if you do listen to my college basketball wisdom and win some money, I want 20% of the pot or at least a shout-out on your twitter or facebook page. Syracuse is the team to beat in the East Regional but there are a couple other teams who are poised to make a run to the Final Four.
FINAL Bracketology: Projecting the 2012 NCAA Tournament Field
Happy Selection Sunday! Get your brackets ready because the NCAA Tournament field will be announced today. Here is The Sports Bank‘s latest Bracketology. I have more than held my own the past couple of years against ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and with my extreme college hoops nerdom, plan to do so again this year. (An * represents a team that has already clinched an automatic bid.)

Cincinnati Bearcats basketball now trending worldwide
Yancy Gates and Mick Cronin are now both among the top ten trending terms on Twitter in the United States. And you’re probably wondering who they are.
As are many people in the world, because the Cincinnati Bearcats star player, and head coach are now picking up the steam all over the world wide web. Today, southern Ohio, tomorrow the globe.
The Bearcats ticket to the dance had already been punched, but this huge win over the Syracuse Orange 71-68, quite possibly the tourney’s #2 overall seed, just solidifies their seeding and placement further.
Back to the Q rating, you may have heard of Gates, but for an infamous reason.
Bracketology: Projecting the 2012 NCAA Tournament Field
It is kind of hard to believe that Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament is just nine days away and conference tournaments are already underway. Here is The Sports Bank‘s latest Bracketology. I have more than held my own the past couple of years against ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and with my extreme college hoops nerdom, plan to do so again this year.
