Bobby Portis was a very crafty pick for the Chicago Bulls tonight at #22. In terms of team need, the Bulls could have used some wings. There could be issues there, especially at the three, with Mike Dunleavy likely leaving. Jimmy Butler could bolt as well.
However, take a look at the 4s and 5s: Joakim Noah injuries are becoming an annual thing. Taj Gibson is coming off ankle surgery. Pau Gasol is getting older.
Maybe Bobby Portis is exactly what they needed? He’s versatile; providing the team with another inside/outside threat.
Bulls Coach Fred Hoiberg says he’s excited about Portis’ ability “to play all over the floor.” At 6’10,” he can do a whole lot of different things. Of course, we first must deal with the elephant in the room. Bobby Portis made this Tweet years ago when he was in high school. It’s just typical of what fans of any team say about any opponent. It just has an F bomb. No big deal.
Uhmmm……awkward! It’s going to be uncomfortable when he meets Derrick Rose for the first time.
Or not, Bobby Portis seemed to handle this situation with aplomb:
Bulls Nation sorry for the tweets I sent 4 years ago. I was a boy then. I'm a man now. And a Bull. DRose, Pau, what kinda donuts yall like?

Well played Bobby Portis, well played. And his situation is a lot easier and manageable than what Larry Nance Jr. has to deal with now in Los Angeles.
