Arsenal football club haven’t won a ton of trophies lately, but they keep on making big time money. Despite a recent lack of Premier League titles, they’re proverbially printing currency at the Emirates, but is that fulfilling enough for the people in charge? The answer is no, according to Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke.
His new NFL franchise, the relocated from St. Louis and now Los Angeles Rams will be a winner says Kroenke.
‘I’ve always loved sports and you have to make it make sense financially,’ the American mogul said in reference to the Rams moving from St.Louis.
‘But you learn over the years that it’s no fun if you don’t win.’
‘When you look at where we are focused as a league, Rams are playing the Giants in London this season, Arsenal is playing over here and the NBA is playing games in London,’ he added.
‘The upshot is that sports is so global, and within the last few years, and that’s where I think people are focusing for growth.”
According to Metro, these comments are in stark contrast to what he said in March; admitting he didn’t buy in to the North London club with the aim of winning titles. Arsenal supporters have seen the team they love, and especially Manager Arsene Wenger, adopt a very conservative spending philosophy in the transfer market.
Thus the comments of Kroenke will likely be met with skepticism (to put it very lightly) by Gunners supporters.
