It’s the international break, therefore “news has never been softer,” as Simpsons character Kent Brockman famously said. It’s almost over, so bare with us a couple more days until Premier League play returns and we can get back to harder football news.
Arsenal scorer Alexis Sanchez is a huge star for his native Chile, and the forward’s prowess had inspired Peru to take drastic, unorthodox action to try and stop him.
Ahead of Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier, a Peruvian witch doctor has placed a curse on Alexis Sanchez, Here’s the YouTube clip of the Sanchez/witch doctor from a local news outlet.
As the video posted by Latina.Pe illustrated, the shamans included a turtle in the supposed hex. (Presumably to try and slow Sanchez down) Halloween and Dia de los Muertos are both coming up, so maybe that explains the timing of the gesture. (Or the fact that Peru hasn’t reached a World Cup since 1982.
The supposed hex obviously didn’t work as Chile went on to win 4-3 Tuesday night, on the strength of two goals from Alexis Sanchez (7′, 44′)
