Tomorrow begins the month of February, meaning there’s at least six more weeks of pain and tedium this college hoops season for the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois overall. The season is already just about lost for every team in the second city.

In the Land of Lincoln overall, only Southern Illinois looks poised to contend for a NCAA Tournament berth. Illinois State has a decent conference record, but their overall mark is so bad that they need to run the conference tournament table to become relevant.

Louis van Gaal beefs up security at his home

louis-van-gaal

Are we seeing a boring brand of football from Manchester United and Louis van Gaal? Yes, we are. Is the club not getting the results commensurate with their transfer spending? Absolutely. They are underachieving greatly. However, the Van Gaal backlash has become more than a bit alarming and beyond a tad frightening.

Some people out there definitely need to relax, settle down and take a few deep breaths. There is never any excuse or justification for verbal threats; ever.

arsenal fc transfer rumors-tottenham

Arsenal’s summer transfer window was notorious for being uneventful beyond the signing of goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea. Today, however that lack of transfer action looks more intelligent as the Gunners are the current consensus Premier League title favorites.

They’re just three points behind Leicester City for the top of the table.

Will Smith is a Manchester United supporter

fresh-prince-will-smith

Internationally acclaimed and big box office draw Will Smith is a Manchester United fan; somewhat. The original “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” himself did an appearance on TalkSport radio to promote his most recent movie about the NFL’s concussion crisis, and how the league covered it up.

Will Smith should have received an Academy Award nomination for his performance, but was shut out. Of course, that’s another story for another time. While doing the segment, Smith was asked if he developed an interest in football during his time in England.

Chelsea finalize Alexandre Pato loan deal

chelsea fc transfer rumors

Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato has been keen on a move to the English Premier League for quite some time. Previously, we’ve heard Tottenham Hotspur linked with a move for Pato, as he would have been their plan B should they miss out on their first choice again- West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino.

Spurs lost interest in Berahino, opening the door for Alexandre Pato to move to White Hart Lane, but it’s a different London club who have acquired him now.

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal’s January transfer activity is done

arsenal fc transfer rumors-tottenham

Arsenal had a mostly dull, largely uneventful summer transfer window that was heavily criticized by sports writers everywhere. Given that Arsene Wenger didn’t sign a single outfield player in the summer, you can understand why their transfer activity earned an F on many a transfer window report card.

Today, however that lack of transfer action looks more intelligent as the Gunners are the current consensus Premier League title favorites.

man-united-news-wayne-rooney-louis-van-gaal-man-united-transfer-rumors

Embattled Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal yesterday did the proverbial “rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.” He insisted that he never offered to resign and he ripped to shreds the media who reported that narrative. He called those reports “awful” and “horrible,” and then brought attention to the fact that the media have “sacked him three times” already.

He also said that he intends to see out his entire contract.
