Super Bowl Image

Once the highly energized AFC and NFC Championship games end, the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl make for one of the most annoying experiences for hardcore football fans. Here at The Sports Bank we like to have a little more fun with out Super Bowl story-lines. Instead of writing the same-old preview and prediction, we decided to amp it up with our prediction.

What The Washington Redskins need to fill this offseason:

redskins

The big question surrounding the Redskins offseason is will RGIII be able to return the next season following his recent injury and surgery? The team also has other holes they need to worry about during this offseason.

The first problem is the decision of who should they keep. There are a few players with contracts up including Pro Bowl player Lorenzo Alexander and Rob Jackson, who filled in well at linebacker when the team had some early injuries. Their contracts, if renewed, could take up a lot of the salary cap and could hinder the Redskins in getting new players to fill other needs that the team has. This becomes an even bigger concern with 2013 being the last year the Redskins are facing an $18 million cap penalty. They also have to decide if DeAngelo Hall is worth the cap hit he has in the last two years of his contract.

Alex Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz, Gio Gonzalez reportedly linked to PED in 2012

a-rod-steroids

Now we have smoking gun to indict A-Rod as who he truly is: A-Roid.  Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, along with former Chicago White Sox pitcher Gio Gonzalez, Nelson Cruz and Melky Cabrera are the four biggest MLB stars treated at a South Florida clinic where, according to a report in Tuesday’s Miami New Times, they received performance-enhancing drugs.

Records taken from Biogenesis, an anti-aging clinic near the University of Miami, indicate those players and many other athletes — all of whom have connections to South Florida — received various substances from Anthony Bosch, the head of the clinic, who is already under investigation by MLB and DEA.

Former 49ers and Raiders OL assaults ex-boyfriend in fight over soy sauce

kwame-harris

No that’s not a typo in the headline. I know you think that because the NFL has no current players who’ve come out of the closet. And there’s a very low number of ex-players (and since we’re talking about ex-Niners, c’mon Jeff Garcia, quit living the lie, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being who you actually are) who are known to be gay that this must be an error. However, it appears ex-San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders offensive tackle Kwame Harris, a former first-round draft pick, has involuntarily been added to the list as a result of the legal issues stemming from a restaurant dispute.

The mysterious play of the Wisconsin Badgers Traevon Jackson

traevon jackson 2

Coming into the season, Wisconsin Badgers sophomore point guard Traevon Jackson‘s claim to fame was being the son of Big Ten legend and former NBA pro Jim Jackson.

Now he’s in the midst of an unpredictable point guard shuffle for a decent Badgers team (14-6) who has surged to a 5-2 record in the best conference in America.

To say Jackson’s season has been defined by up-and-down moments would be an understatement; the latest moment being a game-winning shot against 12th ranked Minnesota. [Read more…]

Victoria Azarenka wins Australian Open (pictorial tribute)

victoria-azarenka

What do you think of the repeat Australian Open champion and #1 player in the world Victoria Azarenka in terms of her play? How about in terms of her physical attributes?

There’s actually a Yahoo Answers thread about Azarenka in terms of looks, perhaps answering that question for you.

The Belarusian, 23, came back today from a set down to win 4-6 6-4 6-3 on a cool and blustery evening on Rod Laver Arena.

In a scrappy match, Azarenka proved the stronger in the closing stages after Li Na rolled her ankle twice and hit her head in two heavy falls.

Sarah Palin out at Fox News Channel? You Betcha! (update)

sarah palin

Sarah Palin actually lasted longer as a Fox News talking head than she did as Governor of Alaska. Just an hour ago, it was announced that FNC will not be renewing the “hockey mom’s” contract. “You can actually see parts of unemployment from my house.” I guess she went a little too “rogue” for the most watched cable news network/public relations unit of the Republican party. Somewhere Manti Te’o is on phone with Sarah Palin talking about the Katie Couric interview: “You were right about her. I never should have done that.”

Northern Illinois appears to have discontinued it’s basketball program

niu

And you thought what Florida State did to NIU in the Orange Bowl was bad. I guess Northern Illinois is a college football school; because their college basketball program is horrendous. Some years they’re bad, this year they are a train wreck. Today they were to scoring what Tim Beckman is to coaching. In a 42-25 loss to Eastern Michigan, the Huskies had 4, count ’em four points well into the second half. Obviously many of their football games are more high scoring than today.
