Casting the New York Jets in MTV’s Jersey Shore

michelle ryan rex ryanjersey shore

The 2010 New York Jets (who play their home games in New Jersey) literally began their NFL season on a reality show; with all their internal drama readily available for viewing pleasure. On HBO’s Training Camp: Hard Knocks, plenty of semi-scripted, Hawthorne Effect induced storylines ensued. As the season went on, more debauchery went down.

Today’s reality television landscape (if there is such a thing as “reality” tv anymore) is dominated by a show “documenting” the trashy lifestyle of 8 guidos and guidettes spending an alcohol fueled summer together in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. And there’s more than a few similarities between the Garden State’s two most popular and trashiest, out-of-control frat houses.

Let’s examine them. “CAN’T WAIT” as Jets LB Bart Scott would say.

Note this is being re-run from last winter. We’ll have to re-cast and find a new spot for Plaxico; and get rid of Braylon

Nebraska’s Bo Pelini: Media Day Gaffe Sounds Like Freudian Slip

This year has seen more scandal in college sports than any other in recent memory. And given today’s media landscape, this malfeasance and corruption is getting much more coverage than ever. Which has opened the door for discussions on whether or not it’s time to pay college football and college basketball players.

This is not one of those discussions. What follows is a small but interesting verbal gaffe from Nebraska Cornhuskers Coach Bo Pellini; it reads like the type of mispeak that Joe Biden would make.

I’m not saying this is a glimpse into what’s really or really not going on, but it is something difficult to overlook.

Plaxico Burress Moves to Other NY Team; Jets Clearly NFL’s most INSANE Squad

As you no doubt have heard, wide receiver Plaxico Burress is staying in New York. He’s moved from the first team to the second. From the proud franchise to the ginger-featured stepchild. For the Jets, this means that WR Braylon Edwards is now certainly gone. (If he wasn’t already). That means the Jets are replacing one troubled wideout who did his college football in Michigan (Edwards played for the Wolverines) with another troubled receiver who also played Big Ten football in the state. (Plax played for the Michigan State Spartans).

As usual when you move from UM to MSU, you tend to get more thuggish ruggish. Edwards was fined for a DUI. Burress went to jail for illegal weapons possession.

#97 Oklahoma Sooners: College Basketball 111 in 111

oklahoma dance team

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

Three years ago, the Blake Griffin-led Oklahoma Sooners were one of the hottest commodities in college basketball, coming within one game of reaching the Final Four.  However, off the court issues and disappointing finishes on the court resulted in Jeff Capel getting fired this off-season.  Former UNLV head coach Lon Kruger now tries to resurrect the program.

Detroit Tigers: An Uninspired Group

The Detroit Tigers are currently one and a half games up in the American League Central. They have, however, only won fifty six of one hundred and seven games this season. This proves that they have been the cream of the crap, instead of the cream of the crop. As I have predicted numerous times, the Cleveland Indians are faltering due to their lack of depth. The addition of Kosuke Fukudome from the Cubs is not the answer to all of their problems.

Twins Should Trade Michael Cuddyer

The trade deadline is fast approaching in Major League Baseball. It is a unique season, so the date is largely ignored due to the NFL free agent comings and goings. Twins General Manager Bill Smith has some tough decisions to make. The team is on the borderline of heading into contention for the stretch run or on the cusp of faltering into the depths of the cellar in the division.

This is the type of decision that he can make from watching the club on a daily basis and getting a feel for which direction they are headed. I think that he should choose to sell at this juncture. Michael Cuddyer is a solid and versatile player. He has been the rock of the club this season with a myriad of injuries affecting almost every aspect of the roster. This is why he is valuable to all the other squads looking to add a complete player for the late summer push.

What a Turn of Events for Indianapolis Colts

The only post-NFL lockout hangup for the Indianapolis Colts seemed to be signing quarterback Peyton Manning to that record deal owner Jim Irsay promised him before the league shut down.

Now the 132-day work stoppage is over, and Manning’s new contract didn’t break any records on the whole — at his request.

Manning and the Colts agreed to terms Saturday on a five-year, $90 million deal that averages out the same as the contract of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. And Indy is already benefiting.

Better Options Were Available at Quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings

The consensus on national media outlets seems to be that the Vikings hit a home run in their acquisition of Donovan McNabb. Much of the reaction to all the transactions has been positive because there is a collective sigh of relief that they are relevant once again. Chris Mortenson and John Clayton obviously grew tiresome of commenting on the court proceedings.

Chad Ochocinco Ready for The Patriot Way, Bill Belichick Upbeat About Transactions

belichick

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick addressed the media this morning to discuss the recent additions of WR Chad Ochocinco and DL Albert Haynesworth, he also talked about the veteran cuts they had to make. There was some snarkiness by BB when asked about how the two additions will fit into how he does things.

Many are questioning how the colorful personalities will mesh with the Draconian program that Belichick runs. See more on that after the jump.

Ochocinco also spoke with reporters this morning and said he’s willing to change to fit in in Foxboro.

“I’ll always be me. But there’s a certain way the Patriots do it, and I’ve always been a chameleon, and I’m going to do it the Patriot way, which is win,” he said.

He also knows Belichick doesn’t want him to be quite as outspoken and attention-seeking as he was with the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Bill, we had our talk and without him having to say anything, I’ll say, there’s no need for some of the things that have been before,” Ochocinco said.
